Steve,
I have your 6 pt bar in my car nearing completion at Florida Speed and Power in Bradenton, FL. If needed, how do I convince the track tech inspector the bar is "NHRA Legal"? Can you provide some sort of document from the NHRA that "certifies" your design?
Thanks in advance.

There is no certification for a "Roll Bar". It is an onsite inspection. Ken Gentry of the NHRA Chassis team went over our designs at a pinks all out event in 2010 and gave us the thumbs up. The Bar has to be installed correctly to meet their requirements so it is a case by case.

1. flywheel shield for manual trans SFI 6.1, 6.2, 6.3, or 9.1 or trans shield/blanket for autos SFI 4.1
2. aftermarket harmonic balancer SFI 18.1
3. 360* axle retention loops minimum 1/4 x 1 bar
4. Aftermarket axles
5. fire jacket SFI 3.2A/1
6. 5-point harness SFI 16.1
7. 5-point rollbar per the 4:10 specs shown in the above general regulations that include it being welded or bolted to the steel frame, which is the part where BIGMAC has concerns. There are special mounting provisions for Z06 and ZR1 aluminum frame cars shown in later rulebooks that are also acceptable methods for steel frame cars. (see dwg)
These are in addition to any other requirements for cars running 11.50 and slower.
IHRA rules are the same as NHRA for these safety items.

I don't want to stir up an argument, but any item advertised as "certified" must be accompanied by written evidence of certification when purchased. It can state, "certified when installed as indicated", but it cannot be so stated when based solely upon a verbal comment. If you are going to market something as "certified", you need to have the evidence to support it. A third party "giving you the thumbs up" is not evidence, or certification.
If your supposedly-certified roll bar fails to prevent injury, as intended, and it is not actually certified, you could lose everything you own, and that is not an exagerration....
