Need Help, Diagnostic Opinions Wanted. Videos and Pictures Inside
So the vette just started getting a ticking noise coming from the engine. Its a 2008 LS3 A6 with about 21,*** miles.
Tonight I took the valve covers off to inspect and honestly I'm not certain what is normal when it comes to the valve train. Attached are videos and pictures, I'm hoping someone can give me an educated opinion or has seen this before and knows whats going on. Please tell me what yall think.
First video is the rocker play on one that the valve is closed on. All the ones with closed valves where like this and I could twist/spin the pushrods on them using my 2 index fingers.
2nd video is just an overview of the head.
3rd video is a start up and it running at different rpms and with various views.
The pics are of pulling the dipstick out, wiping it off, taking it out again a couple of times. Also you can see small specs of metal in the oil sitting on the heads in one of the pics. Also some of the heads.
Thanks in advance and God Bless Y'all!

If you are seeing that many metal flakes on the dip stick, you have some sort of severe internal problem. Could be a bearing, broken ring, or cam shaft lobe / lifter self destructing, or any one of a number of other things. The only way you can really tell what is going on is to disassemble the motor. Take the oil filter off and cut it open, my guess is that you will find that it is also full of metal. In any case that motor is on very short borrowed time. My condolences to your wallet !

Agree.. cut oil filter open and see how much metal is in it.
Do you have a mechanics stethoscope? They can be useful for narrowing down where a noise is coming from
I'd probably pull the rockers off and see if they all feel the same or if some have a lot more play than others to start with since you already have the valve covers off

Thank you guys for the replys, i really really appreciate them! We have a family friend who is a good mechanic and has a car lift. He gets back from vaca on Wednesday I believe so we will get together and probably start tearing into it in the evenings if he's willing. Save some money that way cause I'm blessed but still have big time money priorities over spending into this thing.
Hey were would yall recommend buying aftermarket cams and all that go with them from? I'm more than likely, if it is the cam, going to go aftermarket cam, maybe work the heads and intake abit, and go npp exhaust on it.

I would try to figure out where it's coming from before just tearing it apart. The mechanic friend probably knows more about how to do this than me.
Just my opinion though.

Sounds more than likely like a failed lifter/cam lobe.
Depending on how much metal it has scattered through the engine, probably going to need bearings too.
Any oil pressure issues?

Well GREAT news thank you JESUS!!!
I have been stressing over the car for awhile now and yesterday night my wife reminded me to just give it to God and not stress out about how I was going to fix it.
Long story short, one of my uncles and aunts was visiting my parents and he happens to be a mechanic. He said he had seen it before where an engine started ticking and then an oil change fixed it cause it hadnt been changed in so long.
Today I change the oil and cut open the filter, pretty much spotless oil but my uncle says it does look old. I put new filter on it and new oil, fire it up and the noise is about 80-90% gone!!! He revs the engine for awhile and we go for a spin (150mph) and after that its running smooth as silk, not a single tick to be heard, not even the slightest or faintest of one!!!!
So that is my praise report, thank you Jesus!!! I'll be sure to change my oil more often than it looks like the previous owner did.
