Toyota R888's for street use?
I know they are a great tire and many people are using them.....but due to the fact they are an (R) compound tire, how do they hold up being heat cycled over and over again? Do they get hard quicker than a normal performance tire?

People run them all the time. I'd just be careful in the rain.
Any reason you don't just want to run a drag radial full time? I really think the mileage you'd get out of each would be similar.

I run them on the back during the summer. I have used them for 2 summer now and no problems. I did have them professionally heat cycled when I had them mounted. The only downsides are they suck in the rain and loose traction below 50 degrees.

Just a weekend blaster so don't worry about rain.....they all suck below 50* with 600whp...lol
*plus don't want to lose handling with drag radials*

I guess it depends on the application.
I have a set of R888s going on this week but I also will be tracking the car weekly.
The roads around here are way too crowded for any type of real hauling butt so they serve no real purpose on the street here in Austin. Nothing a set of high performance SuperSport tires can't accomplish anyways.
Good Luck!

R888's are great. Good traction and even better handling.

I've been very happy with R888s on the street. When my current set wears out I will choose them again. After a couple thousand miles of use R888s are still better then a new normal performance tire I put on a 2nd set of wheels.

I should have answered the original question.
My performance shop suggested these tires for me because they said that specifically R888s fall off very little with heat cyling even with daily driving.
But they wear quickly, are noisy, and are lacking in rain. But if you can live with all of that I suspect that you will be very happy.
I get mine this week!

I ran the R888s most of the summer while DDing my Z. While they are great tires on the track (especially when not trailering your car)...they are a bit much for the street IMO....a set of Michelin SuperSports is just as good, if not better for street and you're not dealing with the noise, hairy situations in the rain, etc.
From now on, I am only running R888s to and from the track. Actually did a road trip to the Tail of the Dragon recently and went up there in my Michelins and had just as good of time as I did last year on R888s.

You're comparing 100% street tire cost to a R compound track tire cost. Irrelevant IMO as you get so much more for the money when talking 100% street driving.
Compare R888s to Michelin Sport Cup 2s....then see which one is the bargain.

How much better are the sport cups over the super sports?

I got quotes on all of this recently for my Vette but I have oversized tires as I have a Mini-tub.
R888s installed are about $1630 from the local speedshop (good install with no rim scratches)
MPSSs installed are about $2000. (from Costco)
Sport Cups are about $2600. (from Costco)
The MPSSs are the superior street tire for sure. But if the OP has a 550+ rwhp car the MPSSs aren't going to cut it. My MPSSs broke loose at 70mph entering the freeway in 3rd gear and I only have 450 rwhp.
