Default Does my '08 Z51 have some sort of limited slip differential?

I'm getting the feeling that it doesn't. Is there a significant improvement in acceleration out of turns to be had by adding some sort of limited slip differential?
Please advise.

They have a real LSD. Is your car reducing power when you want it to accelerate or is it some other issue?

From a stop push the happy pedal to the floor with the traction control off. The twin black marks from both tires spinning instead of just one would be from the limited slip.

Yes it has some sort of lsd. The question is how long you've owned it and what type of maintenance/update in fluid has been done to the rear diff.

Thanks for the answers. I will probably do a fluid change even though the car only has 16K miles.

Yes, the limited slip diff works.

No, the fluid doesn't need changed at 16K, unless you broke something or your car was built before Nov 2007 and it has chatter on turns. GM doesn't even list it on their recommended maintenance schedule, which ends at 150K.

What makes you "feel" that you don't? Some sort of behavior that you think should be there that isn't?

I had a rear tire off the ground yesterday and I was stuck with one tire spinning in the air. And that got me to thinking that maybe the Vette was relying on really wide tires to get traction from just one tire.

It does spin constantly but I do have 505 rwhp so I guess that is normal.

My car was built before November 2007 but it does not chatter around turns.

You could always buy a Quaife. That is what I did, no clutches, just gears. We have about the same HP, I got 540, close enough.

I had the same thing going on the first time I tried to get into my driveway after putting a splitter on. I didn't want it to scrape so I was going slow. The angle of my driveway relative to the street caused my RR wheel to come off the ground due to the extremely stiff frame. I thought my trans or rear end was screwed until I got a tip from another forum member on what might be going on. Here it is.

With a tire off the ground you were slipping the clutches in the diff instead of spinning the other tire. Those clutches are why there is no chatter in turns.

if your diff isn't working right you should be able to hear some kind of whine

worst case drain the diff it'll take a few minutes and check for metal shavings

Nice diff. It's "not designed for street use" according to Zip. How's it on the street amongst the civilians?

That doesn't look good. What was the "tip"?

Simply that the angle of the street and driveway caused the RR wheel to come off the ground and lose traction due to how stiff the frame is. If I move past that area a little faster its no problem.

Works fine on the street. I did the upgrade a couple years ago. I built my own diff so I could get what I wanted. I don't recommend that. It was a real challenge. Find the builder you want and tell them what you want.
