Default Doing ls7 exhaust on a ls3? look here

just some helpful stuff to make the job easier.
First of, you will need ls7 exhaust gaskets. here is a picture explaining why-

not enough gasket for a system with backpressure. I will also post the measurements and stuff for converting the ls7 h pipe to fit into the ls3 axle back. give me a couple of hours. in progress.

I cut the z06 h pipe 35 inches from the front flange, and eyeballed the ls3 mid pipe, with an 4 inch long 3" to 2.5" adapter everthing fit fine. Just need to weld it up.
Hope this helps someone who is gonna do theirs soon.

Just what I had done and regretted later the welding part.

I went ahead and had the cats replaced with the new mid pipe and needed to buy new axle over pipes from Corsa, I have the Sports cans.

The dealer would not do the work without having new axle pipes. California would not let me register the car without the updated emission worked performed. Cutting off the weld would make problems when adding the stock mid pipe. My reducer was added to the axle over pipe from the end of the mid pipe.

Also I was very fortunate to be able to purchase the axle over pipes separate from the complete kit. Corsa normally does not sell pieces of kits. It was $300 for the pipes.

i thought the z06 is a direct swap onto the base? (except the 09-13 LS3 axlebacks)

Thanks for this pic. I'm about to help a friend put a pre-'09 Z06 system on his '10 GS. When I did it to my '08 many years ago, I don't remember some of the dimensional details. So according to your pic, it appears that either the Z06 has the mid-pipe hanger in a different location on the car (unlikely) or the Z06 muffler hanger to mid-pipe dimension is longer than the base. (also questionable)

So my question is: What year Z06 stuff (looks like H-pipe) are you putting on what year base car?

My car is a 2012 GS, the donor was a 2007 I think. The hanger is in the same location, but the ls7 h pipe is shorter, and the ls7 converter pipes are longer. By the way, the sound is awesome. And it definitely picked up some power.

Thanks. I sold my Z06 setup over 4 years ago when I went to headers and those memories of how I did it have faded.

Our plan was to cut the Z06 pipes about 10" from the hanger and the GS pipes about 9" from the hanger. That would leave about a 1" gap to be filled with the 3" to 2.5" reducer that is 4" long. Since both the Z06 and OEM pipes will be internal in the reducer, we can slit it and clamp it in place without welding.

May I ask; I am doing the same, but installing a 2013 ZR1 complete system on a '12 GS M6. So, would I get the ZR1 or Z06 exhaust manifold gaskets? I think the ZR1 and Z06 are the same manifolds, right?
Thanks
ETA: Looks like I have the proper gaskets, I bought PN 12594171. They are Z06/ZR1 gaskets.
_________

Boomer; Did you persuade Corsa to sell you the over axle pipes? I was considering that, but didn't even try as I imagined I wouldn't have success.
Thanks

Why didn't you go with clamped reducers?

Yes I talked my **** off with a Corsa rep over the phone.

The car needed to have the recall emission thing done to be able to register it. So the new GM mid pipe would not fit with the hacked up axxel pipes. The rep had to make a call and I got the go ahead. $300 bills though wasn't cheap.

I was told the clamps would not work due to the 1/2 size difference, might be prone to exhaust leaks.

Out of my hands really a speed shop was handling the change over.

I question it but went with the flow.

Something nagged at me and I should've listened to my inner voice.

fwiw, i used a stainless band clamp on my adapters, I removed the center spacer and put them on with an impact. Very tight, and no leaks. I will post a pic later this week. Work has me jumping lately..

also, be careful with the exhaust gaskets. They are sharp. Cut the crap out of my finger on one and bled all over my manifolds and plug wires....

SS clamps work fine. No leaks, and holds it in place just fine.

And rotate the clamps to avoid snagging a plastic bag that melts onto the pipe.
