what is the best way to remove drivers side plastic valve cover. there is a braided line that goes through it and preventing me from taking it off? does that line have to be disconnected at one end to get the cover off?

You can bend the portion of the cover behind the line up or down to get the room needed to get the valve cover off. I can't remember which way it has to go--I think up

No need to remove the hose (it's a fuel line)

Do it with the car warm, so that they are more pliable.

I got it. PITA but I got it off. Even more of a pain to put it back on.

Pull it off the fuel rail and the two pins that hold it on. Then turn it 90 degrees counterclockwise, push the left part down and the right part up to open the split and then pull the split off the fuel line. Reverse to reattach.

The method I was told was to wrap some tape around the hose---just one wrap. Helps it slide off. Slightly counter-intuitive since it does make it "thicker" but it worked easy. I did remove the tape so it semi-weld on with the warmth/heat of the engine. And, Joe G is right: I used the uneven picking up of one edge, then the other.

place painters tape around the split in the fuel rail cover where the fuel line intersects... pop up .. twist about 80 to 90 degrees .. slightly depress the area close to the fuel line... guide the line out

This is very important...if you do it in the winter when cold, they have been known to crack. With the car fully warmed up, they are like noodles. When putting it back on, lay it on a hot engine for a few minutes.

I split mine actually.. so def. a possibility if you're too rough on them

But wear some mechanics gloves.

I burned the crap out of my hand removing it when one of my plug wires popped off the coil on that side in a parking lot. It is much more pliable when warm though.
