1 would try a set of 410 gears as your first mod, that would probably please you or at least add that to your list first

Have done everything myself besides the tune and the clutch. Headers were the most time consuming, just be patient. Only real speciality tools you need are torque wrenches. Need one foot and one inch pounds. When you get around to doing it shot me a pm and is can give you a list of stuff you need that don't come with the parts.

Just wasnt sure if the FAST 102 was legal in California. Fortunately they are cheaper than when they first came out.

I would agree with this but since he is in an 05, he would want to swap the entire diff. That could be expensive for some of us.

Can you explain why I would want to or need to swap the entire rear? Is the earlier rear not capable of accepting the higher numerical gears?

The rear differential case on the 05 cars leaves a bit to be desired. They tend to spit their internals out at a higher rate than 06 and up rear differentials. It was a poor 1 year design.

I blew the rearend out of my 05 and it took the transmission with it. I only had headers, vararam, 160 stat, Tune.

Exactly....

Some people have been able to get away with adding a supercharger or turbo to their 05's and not blow out a diff. However, I dont think that many of those use the supercharger to its full capability and really light up the car.

Now all this being said, if you start to go to crazy with mods sans supercharger, you can end up smoking the rear end (and possibly tranny) as in Schoolteacher's case. Small amount of mods could equal big time damage in the end.

Sounds like you have recently purchased this car. My advice. Enjoy it for a bit, do some research and save a little money in the meantime. If i remember correctly, you are in NorCal. You have some great roads up there. Lots of twisties. Get out there and drive the car through them. Have fun with it. Then you can slowly build a parts list and find out with you really want. Modding is an addiction. Some can kick the habit, some build on it.

I made 400 passes on the 05 diff before cracking it, you can put a c5 with the stanger mod or do the rpm 06 second generation upgrade, mine got a small crack from wheelhop, so i got there adapter and swaped my ring gear dif unit and 300 m axles and bought a case and new side covers from gene culley,, I did 1.41 60 fts with the 05 dif, and have all the boltons then did cam then heads and nitrous, know problems with 1.34 60 fts and low 10s NA and 132 mph, much faster with the nitrous, you can read all the passes and the mods record runs in the c6 performance list
