Look deep in the pit of doom !
So there is a cylinder & piston sort of internal arrangement.. but It has some sort of interlock so I couldn't get the two apart... and I had MUCH bigger fish to fry.. but they LOOK the freakin same !

IT CRANKED ! ( for a bit )
Still didn't find the FACTORY TOP !!!
ALL ENGING WIRING IN !
(Yes this side too !)
Plug wires left off intentionally.
David was able to start @ 9:00am & we are COMPLETE with engine wiring.. my TEST battery is ***** so the engine cranked for less than 2 sec..BUT it did crank which means we are REALLY CLOSE to a test fire... NEXT new & correct battery, install battery pedestal, install main cats, put on the plug wires & try again !
OH and for the first time ( with correct wiring ) my fuel gauge sez less that 1/4 tank so we need some FRESH FUEL !

Batt in
Cats in ( with a bit of a fight on the X pipe flange )
Wires in
Pushed button... VROOM
AND NO CHECK ENGINE NOR ABS LIGHTS ( so far ) !
And this is where I pull the plug today...Hefting that battery hurt, 1.5 hrs under the car laying down helped installing the cats...
This leaves ( in no particular order) new hoses for cooling system , evac AC and charge, finish installing plastics ( inner fenders, air dam air cleaner, brake cooling ducts ) . Start test driving , complete all inspections then paint nose! BAM

NOW to be fair, I did crank the engine over ALOT post battery install so oil would be there and fuel could do it's thing.... and it is the ORIGINAL 1/4 tank ( with some cleaner ) but no new gas.....YET....
Next move.. 2 doans pills !
Later return the core battery, more supplies and start connecting the cooling system up so I can idle the engine up to temp and see what is bleeding ( if anything ) ....

Mike,
I can see that smile when that thing cranked up all the way here in Florida. I can imagine hearing that thing makes it all worthwhile. Love watching your progress

Great project, from one retiree to another. But I do have one question: When you do look for your next project would it state: " Salvage title, but lot drives"?

05 Wreck..Lot "drives " is REALLY subjective... I just go with what I can see and even then ALOT is in the air, like I didn't catch CUT MAIN WIRING nor CRACK in windshield...but all & all still SLIGHTLY under budget....

1/2 of the day spent on this DIVERSION....
The neighbor's kinda are having a hard time makin ends meet. I lent him my truck for wheels to go to & from work & to shuttle the kid to school.
He has been feeling bad about this.. but from my point of view... better running then sitting ( 98 Expedition, eddie bauer BEATER ) ....
So he got his Mom's car ( she is to old to drive ) and it's been sitting for ~ 1 year. She kept up on it's maint schedule & Batt was dead and it had 1 flat.... BUT TODAY it lives again.. the most POWERFUL car in the universe !!!!
92 Toyota Camry DX, 184K ,on the clock.. and it made it 20 miles.... with 1 SLIGHT issue.. the hood latch would keep poppin open but it stayed latched on the safety catch....
Granny Gold with turd brown interior !
Might need 1 CV joint....
AC even worked!!!
We did about 2 hrs of wrenchin and so far so good !
( we took the hubcaps off so it would look more like a driftin machine with the MASSIVE 2.0L transverse 4 )!
Good deed of the day done !

Moving right along, and I missed yesterday. You did your good deed for the week, imo. Congrats on getting neighbor's car running. (don't call it turd brown interior---lotta cars back in that day had that color interior, and I kinda liked it! I even had one that was close, and had lots of little "buttons" in the cushions---I forget what that's called but it's found on leather furniture, too---don't make fun---it was on a very comfortable, '86 Maxima.)

Phase 1 DONE
~ 4:00pm PST
I heard the alarm horn go off, and David has started.. so I hobbled out..
2 hrs of final OH BY THE WAYS...and pick up tools....
I let David take it out for the 1st & 2nd shake down.. OH and filled the tank and no fuel stinky !
Took the GF for a once round the block 2 thumbs up there...
The exhaust is VERY VERY quiet!
The D/S motor mount pooped it's pants....
There is an air bag issue.. ( not sure why though ) ...
Next get the trans level checked...
and give it a BATH....
Phase 2
Reg /inspections
Paint nose and other misc body work
Get the Air Dam bits...
Really happy overall !
