Down Draft Intake Manifold

Down Draft Intake Manifold
I'm considering installing a 'trumpet style' down draft intake manifold on an LS3. But I'm unsure about the modification needed to install such manifolds? Does it require any changes in wiring & ECM programing ?
Some kits are expensive at around 5k but others are much cheaper at around 1k & even offered at ebay!
I'd appreciate any advice & feedback from members that have installed such manifolds.

Don't know about that one but a competitor at optma challange had the harrop was a nightmare to tune. Depending on what you are trying to accomplish you may want to talk to some of the leading tuners. Good luck!

Stay away from the Chinese knock-offs sold at Speedway motors and on eBay. The throttle shafts are not machined for smooth ball-bearing operation and begin to gall fast. Metal shavings in a new moter every time you rev in. I'm not kidding. I have four of these setups running on street rods and kit cars...Go name brand, avoid the cheap crap.

Yes, it would require extensive tuning, mechnical, and fitment changes. Hood, cowl. Possibly aftermarket ecu/pedal assembly/etc.

The down drafts are nice but intakes like the harrop (side) are probably easier to fit under the hood. I've never driven a car with one, but those that have them seem to love them after they are all tuned up.

with something like in the image above, the hood and the firewall will need cutting if its going into a corvette c6
harrop sells itb kits engineered to work on ls engines so you dont have to deal with a lot of the issues converting it over, however the cost is high

Certainly a wow factor.
FWIW:
Who needs a hood?
Lots of tuning fun I'd say.
Maybe best for straight line acceleration racing?
Again a real wow factor.

Good luck tuning that thing.

I would think it can be used with a drive by wire actuator as the dual throttle body dual plenum intakes using fuel injectors.
Tuning should not be so hard ones all the throttles are set identical with attention to detail just bare in mind there is no plenum so no map or mass air flow sensor.

"tuning should not be so hard"
and
"no map or mass airflow sensor"
does not compute

Yep, aftermarket ecu, cable drive.
If anyone could get this working for less than $5k, and even then will probably lose power they deserve a cookie.
