Default Checking the oil in the Z06

I apologize for the newbie question here - I have never owned a Corvette and definitely not a car with a dry sump oil system. Is there a specific way to check the oil level?

Is it the same as all other cars, just turn the car on let it warm up then shut it off. Pull the dipstick out, wipe it off then insert it and pull out again and check the level?

UPDATE:
I drove my car for about an hour today. Came back home, parked it in the garage on a level surface and shut the car off. After about 8 minutes I checked the dipstick. Wiped it off, pushed it all the way back down until it stopped then pulled it out and checked it. The dipstick was dry all the way in the hash area with the exception of the very bottom tip (1/4") of the dipstick that had oil on it everything else was pretty much bone dry. I'm assuming this was an incorrect reading because if the oil was really only high enough to read the bottom 1/4" of the dipstick the engine would be very low on oil and I would imagine I would get some sort of warning light.

So I turned the car on again (the engine was still warm) and let it run for about 30 seconds. Shut the car off and this time checked the oil after about 3 - 5 minutes and it appeared to have oil within the hash marks although I admit it is hard to tell if this is the actual oil level or just remnants of oil that is still sliding down the tube and just happened to get caught on the dipstick when I pushed it back in.

On the Z06 Nope. Not the same as other vehicles. Get the oil up to operating temp and then shut motor off. Let sit for at least 5 minutes and no more than 10 and then check oil.

Also when changing the oil make sure both plugs on the oil pan are removed. Fill oil in the dipstick hole and not the valve cover,

Okay so it sounds similar to most other vehicles with the exception of waiting at least 5 minutes but no more than 10?

Well, the procedure for checking dry sump oil is very specific and I would follow that exactly and see where you are. For the Z06 its:

1. To obtain an accurate engine oil level reading,
warm up the engine to at least 175°F (80°C).
Cold oil will not give a correct oil level reading.

2. Once the engine is warm, turn off the engine.
Checking the oil while the engine is running
will result in an incorrect oil level reading.

3. Wait at least five minutes (but not more than
20 minutes) to allow oil to drain and settle in
the engine.

4. Remove the dipstick from the external engine oil
tank and clean it with a lint-free paper towel or a
cloth. Re-insert the dipstick into the external oil tank,
pushing it all the way in until it stops.

5. Remove the dipstick from the oil tank and read the
level on the cross-hatched area. Oil levels that fall
in the cross-hatched area are normal.

per the OWNERS MANUAL.........................

When you say temperature to 175 are you referring to coolant temp or oil temp? And is the owners manual in book form? I only got a CD owners manual with my car and it seems to not be the full manual.

You checked the level properly. I'm concerned that you're low on oil. I would recommend an oil change for peace of mind.

If I was that low on oil to where only the very tip of the dipstick had oil on it (like the first time I checked it) wouldn't I be getting some sort of warning light?

My engine oil says 55% left. In the pictures I posted you can see about a 1" band of oil right in the middle of the hash marks right where the second hole is. But to me it's weird that there is a 1" band of oil there but not below that band.

Anyone? I still need to get a jack and stands and the oil and filter

Okay I think I was doing something wrong earlier when I checked it. I warmed the car up again to about 190F and let it sit. I waited 8 minutes and got this reading. To me these readings look normal, right? I think what I was doing wrong earlier is I would insert the dipstick and immediately pull it out. This time I inserted the dipstick and waited for about 10-15 seconds and then pulled it out. Not sure why this would change the reading but it seemed to do exactly that.

Your fine.

I wait 15 minutes anytime the engine coolant temp reaches operating temp.

Don't overthink it. Don't check it to soon, and don't wait 20 minutes.

I was readying the post to reply to the OP and seen that you replied with good info as well as providing a PDF of the owners manual.

This is why I like the forum and the value of the members.

What happens if you put to much oil in it? Like maybe you did not let all the oil drain and you had problems putting back your 8 quart limit. When I started the car and backed it out I had a really big oil puddle but I went driving around and it didn’t leak after that
