Default Steering wheel upgrade...... issues?

Updated my 2005 steering wheel to a 2006+ wheel and airbag. All back together but has an airbag light on and horn won't work? Do I have to clear airbag code? Do I need to re-pin the harness to make horn work?

If this is your first wheel change, the air bag light is coming on BC one or both of those tiny little plastic safety pins that you removed/replaced in the air bag module is broken or bent. Those pins, when pushed in place actually open a shorting switch. The pins are difficult to find. Search on the forums or google.

Some dealer techs have these in their toolboxes, if you know any.

Did you replace your clock spring? The wheel needs the newer one.

I got the updated clockspring. One of the little push tab prongs did break while trying to install (the 2 center prongs)...I just thought they were for alignment purposes...damn it

Guaranteed that's your AB light. Soon as you replace the pins (and not break the new ones) the light will extinguish by itself.

Be careful that a piece of one of the legs didn't get stuck in the socket as the new one will break going in.

These locking push tabs for the connectors are known as CPA (Locking Tabs). According to the Technical Service Bulletin, the clips not only hold the air bag plugs in place but also act as a "Position Sensor" by applying pressure to the plug telling the system the air bag is properly connected. The TSB is # 08-09-41-002 (June 10, 2010). The CPA (Locking Tabs) are referenced a GM # 54590003-PKG. These are reported to come in a package of 5 and are available from Kent Moore at 1-800-GM-TOOLS.

One more point - as long as those pins are broken and the AB light is flashing, you do NOT have a working driver's AB in case of a crash.

Yeah, and Kent Moore comes to mind...sounds familiar.

What needs to be done to convert the 2005 horn with this setup?

I don't recall having any issues. At most it was moving some wires around, nothing fancy.

Sorry, wish I remembered more from when I did mine

The (05) setup had a separate ground wire for horn. Thinking I need to re-pin the harness...but not sure where

I'm almost sure I had to swap a connector out or move some pins around, something simple like that.

Do you have any pictures of the old vs. new? Might help jog my memory

Nice wheel. Who makes that one? I hate the stock steering wheel in mine.

Nice. I'm looking at a wheel from them as well. Seem the nicest out of aftermarket ones I've looked at. Not cheap though.
