What are you looking to gain? The gears would give the car a mechanical advantage.

So what answers didn't you like in the other post where you asked the same question?

I am an old timer, won over 150 trophys in several classes. Just playing with my car for something to do. I didn't. Want to go to 315 or converter because I drive my car on vacatios and have crane low end power cam. Car ran 12.14 last year at Englishtown with Runflats. Was hoping to maybe gain 1or 2 car-lengths in 1/4 mile. Thanks

We played the same game, since I made my first pass in 1958 and held National records in 3 classes in the late 60's-early '70's.
I've driven my '08 through 47 States and ran at several out-of-state tracks while touring, including Englishtown in '08. Last Summer I took a 5400 mile road trip, even though I currently have a 4000 stall converter. I've taken longer trips with stock, 3200, and 3600 stall converters. A 3200 drives almost like stock until you hit it. They aren't like the converters of our youth. It'll still lock up for 27-30 mpg road trips, while dropping nearly 3 tenths in the 1/4. You can't get bigger bang for the buck.

the torque convertor will be a lot more beneficial than a small gear ratio change.....................and about the same overall costs..................

You're getting good advice in here. My vote would be for a 3200 FTI or Yank converter, and tune it so that that TCC locks up under cruise, and leave the gears alone. With good traction, that will put you deep into the 11s, without affecting your highway mileage. You should install a good trans fluid cooler too, preferably a plate type.

Going from 2.56 gears to 3.42 (as I have in my car now) will only get you about another 1/10th at the track but will make the car insanely more fun to drive on the street.

A few years ago I ended up having to temporarily go backwards from 3.42 to 2.56 in my low 10 second race car and I hated it as the car actually felt sluggish around town.

Another anecdote that occurred is I swapped cars with my friend for a 20 minute test drive a few years back. My car at the time was still an LS2 running right around 11 seconds flat with a 3.15 differential and his was also a 2007 LS2, but with a blower and 2.56 gears. After the test drive we both agreed that my car felt like it pulled harder just driving around town, despite having at least 100 less HP.

You're going to need more then 2 car lengths to make up for my blower Benny.
Don't help him out to much guys, it's expensive staying infront of him.
