Since the price announcement and since my 04Z06 is my daily driver and since I can not realistically justify $75K for the car, I am going to let things cool off for a couple of years. An yes I am keeping the 04 Z06.

In my opinion the C6Z06 will not be an exotic, but I was really hoping for one. I will more than likely get one in 07 or 08, so the dilemma is how to get involved in a project while waiting. Incidentally, I test drove some ferraris (355, Testarossa) and in the end the only one that I could fit in comfortably, was the 360 and at $150K it is not a good value for me. Which really led me to the $75K price and again for me and NOT SPEAKING FOR OTHERS, It may be a good price for some but I could not justify the C6Z06 as a good value - and we all buy them for different reasons.

Instead, I decided to embark on a project. I just bought a 2001 Prowler, 2800 lbs and good weight distribution. She has 6000 miles on her and the color is almost identical to the C6Z06, but looks really nice on this car.

My question is as follows:

What are the overall dimensions for the new LS7, and has anyone put a Corvette motor in a Prowler and what where the challenges and surprises, good and bad.

Please no flames!

Then you'll be happy to know it's $65k.

Good luck with your project. When all is said and done do you think you will have less than 75K in your project car??

You can put an LS1 in just about anything...well not anything but it has a lot a applications. Here are some links to some sites that you can get info from.

I'm looking for one in particular, but can't find it at the moment...I will keep looking and do an edit. You will probably want to put a T56 6 speed in as well.

You get the idea, people are putting LS1/2/6/7 in a lot of things.

the outside dims of the LS family are pretty much identical.

You can also check out ebay for engines, new, rebuilt, and used.

Edelbrock even makes a carb/manifold for the LS1 now so you can drop one it and not worry about computers either.

The base model with no options @ msrp will be over $70k with sales tax. Plus any options and license fees. $75k looks like a good ballpark figure.

add this up:

65,000+800+490+1295+750=68,335 -- not 75,000. actually $6,665 less

Sales tax? depends, sell some cars or trade and you get credit. I'm selling 3 cars to pay for Z, so no tax at all.

In fact a fully loaded, including the $2k cd changer is only $75k

Apparently sales tax and license fees don't apply to you.

nope they do, I just planned for this by buying some classice cars that appreciated a little to help offset the cost of the Z and there sales negated the sales tax.

your're not just walking off the street with no ride and buying a Z are you? You've got to have something to barter with on the tax issue.

You ceratinly didn't wake up one day and say...I got to have a Z06, my 88' cavalier just ain't cut'n it no more?

How you pay for it is not the issue. $65800 + 7.25% CA sales tax = $70570.50. Plus license fees and an option or 2 here and there could be close to $75k.

Now, 1 stock I have has just about double in the last 4 years for a gain of about $160k. Does that mean that I get the Z free. No. It's still costing me $70k-$75k depending on how I option it, and the state is still taxing me on it and charging license fees. Yes, the gain negated the entire cost of the Z, but I still gotta pay.

$30K for car. $15K parts and a lot of elbow grease. It should be fun to stick a 400 + hp in a 45/55% weight distribution on a 2800 lb chasis.

I just saw one sell at an auction for $70K - very custom & very impressive.

For Yr1 at well over MSRP and California taxes, registration & fees according to a San Gabriel Valley dealer it will be well over $83K. No thanks, not for me, not just yet.

I still think it comes down to what each individual thinks is good price vs. good value.

The external dimesions of the LS7 should be basically the same as the LS1. Main differences will depend on the oiling system you go with.

The C5 Z06 was the best bang for the buck and beat 911 TT and 360, now the C6 Z06 has moved into supercar territory and is still the best bang for the buck on the world stage, and with the C6 Z51 being almost equal to the C5 Z06 it has taken it's place. It's a win-win whether you get a used C5 Z06, C6 Z51, or the new Z06!

I saw a Viper V10 in one... so an LSX should be no problem...

I think your end cost estimate is a bit low... surprise me .... but a cool, fun project just the same...

I'd leave the Prowler stock. Hack it up and you'll kill the resale.

You'd basically need a complete drivetrain and all electronics and then you'd run into all kind of issues with the systems that need to remain in the Prowler like the air bags, instrument cluster, ABS..

I can seen an outfit like Lingenfelter doing it because they have huge resources and fabricating abilities. They can also put their name on it and sell it for a fortune. I think if the average joe blow tries it, it'll be a hack job. Will it still have balanced handling? Would the air bag system work properly - not if the vehicle weight has been significantly altered. Same with ABS ???

They scoot pretty good with the V-6. Need more power, maybe some bolt ons and nitrous.

The point is that if the $72k plus taxes is too much, skip the damn options and shave off $6k. Nobody said you MUST buy navigation, XM radio and Cd changer. And sales tax applies to ALL cars, so it's not a part of the equation when comparing one to another.

Well, he did say come in if you have something nice to say...

I do agree with your point that there are a number of issues to resolve and there needs to be some serious thought before embarking on a project like this. Like I said, I think his final cost is a bit off... maybe a lot off..

However, putting his remarks concerning the vette not being a value to him aside, one must consider that he places value somewhere else. Doing a project like this is a learning experience and sometimes that holds more value than anything else... You pay in many ways for the knowledge gained... financial, sweat, frustration, etc... but in the end you learn and you gain from knowing you accomplished something.. How do I know? I've done this a few times... and I wouldn't take for the experiences.

However, back to his premise... if it's all about money, if considered completely in a financial light, he will most likely learn that the new vette was the better value in the end...

There is one that runs around South Florida with a ZZ4 Crate in it. Looks stock from the front, from the back you can see that it has a Ford IRS 9 inch rear.
