Default Ls7 Going To Cadillac

I QUOTE FROM AUTOWEEK APRIL 3RD ISSUE:

" We're told it's (picture) the 2007 CTS Super V and that it's powered by a 7.0 liter 505-hp LS7 V8 lifted directly from the Corvette Z06."

ALSO:

" If that's not powerful enough, wait for the next generation CTS Super V which is rumored to be equipped with the LS9 engine-a supercharged 6.2 liter V8 with 600hp. But you'll be waiting until the 2010 or 2011 model year for that one."

Since Z car always gets the biggest, best, and newest stuff ..... this bodes well for a HP increase in '07 ? or '08 for sure.

I agree. There's certainly a good possibility? Maybe the LS9 engine to the Z first?

The LS9 has been rumored to be the Corvette SS's power plant for some time. Who knows.

If one keeps waiting for the next 'bigger and better' , one will never buy any car. Actually im glad to hear this as im in the market for a CTS-V

They'll probably detune the 427 to be used in the CTS-V. Something more like 475HP. Compare it to the LS1 in Corvettes and Camaros.

Once again:

Bet against the LS7 (or other 427-style engines) to appear in any CTS-V. It ain't happening. In this case, Autoweek is wrong.

The money is on a supercharged LS2.

We can happily revisit this thread in a couple of years when the new V does finally hit the market. It won't be any time soon... :-)

Not sure where some of you get your info, but the info from Autoweek is 100% correct for 2007 according to my little birdie. LS7 is going in there and it will have the full 505HP. And it is coming for 2007 - that is next year...not a few years down the road.

My little birdie is not sure the SC'd LS9 is a go, because he says SCing the Northstar (a stouter engine than the LS motors) was a huge challenge, and because it would not work for the Vette (too much weight over the front end). There WILL be more power coming to the Z06 for 2008 as well as other changes (carbon brake & targa options and bigger rear wheels) he says, but he is not sure what form that extra power will take.

My money is on it going Turbo'ed. S/C's are old school.

Turbos are the future for making real power in a vette ... and the present for many of us with C5/C6 cars.

Good.

The LS7 returns to the car that birthed it.

And i don't think it will be de-tuned. My 2004 CTS-V wasn't detuned (although it was 400 vs. C5Z of 400, but it was because of exhaust). The real problem is that I'll want to replace my CTS-V with a 20087 to match my C6Z. And, oh, what a beating I'll take if I trade my LS6 V.

Nice...only downside, as they mentioned, it will be the last year of that body style.

If any of this is true, GM better do something about the CTS-V's differentials. I have seen on the CTS forums and have a good friend who went through 3-4 rear ends in his CTS-V, and this was with the 5.7L 400 hp motor.
Apparently GM was stuffing regular V6 rear ends into the CTS-V and praying it would hold up... Then when a customer would track or drag (or just aggressively street drive) their car and the rear blows out, they call it "abuse" and be difficult about repair/replace under warranty.
Another reason GM is sucking wind. Save a few bucks on a rear end during design/manufacturing, blow tons of money on warranty and/or lost goodwill...
