***11.24@122.38 w/a 1.688 60' bone stock***
Well it turned out to be a good day at Atco in NJ today, in spite of the awful weather that was a scary prelude yesterday.
I attended a private rental that was set up by RobZ-thanks bro, good job!
This would be my second time at the track with my "new to me" 2006C6Z06. I got her 2 weeks ago Wednesday (11/1/06) w/ 3044 miles on the clock. She has about 3600 miles on her now. I put on about 550 miles in that time, so not really much seat time to speak about. Last Saturday was my first time out with the car & I made 2 passes at Etown just to get a feel for the new beast. The results were disappointing to say the least. I ran a 12.1 & a 12.0 w/ 60' times of 2.01-2.07 @ 121. I bogged on both launches badly. Ranger was right when he said the clutch is "finicky" and tough to launch on. Although everyone at Etown was saying they were running .2-.3 slower then usual due to the poor air, I was still expecting 11's.
Fast forward to today's rental now. My first 2 passes yielded 2.01 & 2.07 60' times w/ 11.7x @ 122.5 & 123.44, launching at 2500 rpm's. Not bad to start the day off. I bogged on the launch on both of these passes, but I knew I had plenty of time ahead of me.
My 3rd pass I lost the slip somehow, but it was in the 11.58 range @ 123.xx. I spun (finally) on the launch. The next pass I got too aggressive with the throttle on the launch & spun badly, so I aborted the run before I passed the tree. These were launched at 3000 rpm's.
The next pass I got comfortable with launching & ran an 11.34@123.43 w/ a 1.80 60'. I launched this pass at 2800 rpm's. I was very pleased to say the least & thought aboout calling it a day with that run. I didn't have VERY high expectations my first "real" track day, but I kept going.
My next 3 passes got progressively worse though, being 11.45 w/ a 1.88 60';11.58 w/ a 1.92 60'; & an 11.51 w/ a 1.92 60', all close to 123.3xmph. These launches were at 2900-3100 rpm's. I think I was getting tired. It just comes down to a proper clutch release, which was my main focus the entire day.
After chatting with Ranger & Phil (dgdoc) we decided a higher launch could be handled with the track prep & conditions.
My final pass would turn out to be my best. I launched at 3200 rpm's and the car just left without a peep!
I got a 1.688 60' & ran 11.242 @ 122.38 mph!! I was ecstatic to say the least. I nailed the launch dead on, but I just barely nicked the revlimiter on the 1-2 shift. Maybe it cost me .02....
We couldn't figure out why I was stuck in the 122-123mph range all day though. Ranger ran @ 125 mostly in his 4 or 5 passes.
It was a good ride home for me.
It was nice to meet Phil & Ranger, who's tips posted here were extremely helpful. Gary,Enzo (who ran an 11.90 in his stock E55AMG) Ross, the Cartek guys, & everyone else were very pleasant & good guys as well.
I would gladly answer any questions anyone may have.
I'll try to post up the slip later. Phil video taped my run, but I don't think he taped the 11.24 run. I think he got the 11.34 run though, & I'll post that when I get it over the weekend.
The DA was around +700 all day, except my 11.24 run, it was +500 I was told. No powershifting either, except one early pass on the 3-4 shift. All shifts were as close to redline as possible.

I wish I could have been there, but I was wasting my time at a sales meeting in San Diego this entire week.
For such a short amount of time owning and driving the car, those were awesome runs.
If only you could have benefited from a -DA today you might have gone even lower.

That 1.68 60 ft on stock tires is absolutely sick. I believe this car can get into the 10s with the stock tires when I see this kind of data.

Dr Ron, did you heat up the tires and at launch, did you hold the throttle position and for how long before matting it? I'am going to a rental day tomorrow as well and would like to improve on my last one and only run of 12.12, 2.32 60ft before I broke cv joint. I tried to do just like Ranger says and launch at 2700 and bogged. Next time I launched at 3000 and broke cv joint. Appreciate any pointers!

I was standing about 30 feet behind Ron's C6Z when he launched the 11.24 pass and admire that 1.68 60' and the straight line that he drove in the groove all the way, end-to-end. That is very hard to do and he did it.
His 330' time on that run was 4.78 which is very fast even for drag radials, but he was on stock tires. So Ron made literally the most out of available traction.
Faster times are in his future as he makes more runs, hopefully in an extended Fall season. Great job driving, Ron.

It will depend on the track prep, but what I did was as fast as I released the clutch, I floored the gas. So while the clutch was coming out, I was going down on the gas. I went down on the gas JUST barely after the start of the clutch release,maybe a tenth of a second behind the clutch release..
When I held the gas until the clutch was out is when I bogged.
I did a "rolling burnout". I'd start the burnout but not hit the brake, & hold the burnout right up to the line. I just didn't want to destroy my Goodyears.

Thanks for the info. I am amazed you didn't torch the tires with being that quick into the throttle. Must of been a really good track prep job.
Tommorrow going to Bradenton International. Friend has a Pro-comp car and he and a couple others rented the track. They will freshly prep the track after test and tune is over and their track time starts. Maybe this will help me get a good launch!
