Default Universal Remote Transmitter Problems On 07 Z06

My Friend And I Both Took Delivery On 07 Z06's At The End Of Last Year And Are Faced With Universal Remote Transmitters That Cannot Be Programmed With Gate Openers. He Has A Fixed And I Have A Rolling Code Gate Opener. Evidently GM Switched From "Homelink" To Lear's "car 2u" System In Aug 2006...my 05 C6 worked Perfectly, As Does My 2006 Dodge Ram, Which Have The "Homelink" Unit....anyone Have Any Solutions, or the same problems??

You are correct in that GM switched to leers car2u system. car2u does not have a "learn" mode as homelink did. It basically means if you have a fixed code transmitter that does not have pin switches you out of luck. car2u is nice enough to sell you $100's+ in adapters to allow to use what worked fine on homelink, on car2u. I would call car2u and they seam to be helpful. 866 572-2728

My Z06 was built in September. I thought I had Homelink, as all the documentation says so. How can I determine which I have?

Looking at the transmitter buttons on the visor. If you have 3 led lights you have car2u if you have one led you have homelink.

Thanks for setting me straight, but how do you know the difference between the 2.

Mine worked with my Genie garage opener (no learn button on the motor head), and with the Mild to Wild exhaust ON/OFF gadget, after I programmed both to the visor buttons

1 LED in in a home symbol = homelink
3 LEDs (one over each button) = car2u (started in sept/oct 2006)

You're right I have three buttons and one LED above in a home drawn symbol. Thanks for the correction

OK, based on that info, I have car2u. I had no problem programming for my garage door opener - Chamberlain Liftmaster.

So by looking at the site, is all I need to make my security gate and fixed code garage work the $25 conversion module? Thats what it seems like, not $100s in accessories?
Anyone know?

Mr. Lear Team,

Please just tell us one thing ...... tell us 07 Z06 Corvette owners how to get the damn MILD 2 WILD Z6 Exhaust On Demand remote Fob to work on your 3 LED System. It should not be very hard, Homelink can it do and "Pipe" just passes the buck on to you. What is the mystery Mr. Lear Team ?

Well, I couldn't get my Genie fixed code AT-85 transmitter to work. I' have the Lear Car2 U system and attempted multiple times. Since I couldn't get it to work I bought a new garage door and opener and solved the problem that way.

The installer was R&S Erection (I know there's a joke in there somewhere) and I now have a Chamberlain door opener with rolling codes called "Security+". It takes 2 attempts to get the Car 2 U system working with the Chamberlain rolling code door opener. FIO.

Zed,

Wouldn't it have been cheaper to replace the Lear Car2 U system for a HomeLink ?

Does anyone know if you can just pop the Lear Car2 U system out and replace it with a new or used Homelink ?

I spent over 2 hours with Lear on the phone trying to get the system to open my neighborhood gates to no avail. It just doesn't work with either my 07 coupe or my 07 Z06. The Homelink in my 05 Coupe and in my 05 Tahoe work just fine. The gate system is not a dip switch system but there is no learn button either. The Homelink is a far superior product in my opinion. Corvette engineering should leave some thing alone. I give up on Lear.

Yes you could except the visors are no longer available and out of stock in the GM parts system. Next option is to find a wreak. Or, you could disassemble the visor and replace with a Homelink module if you have one. I'd use great care because the mirror installation is fragile. Would suggest un-sewing the visor and leave the mirror alone. Good luck, dofdear

Default Hey vendors. Help!

Maybe one of the vendors could make and sell replacment visors with the Homelink and no warning sticker. I bet they would sell

Great idea - Pipedreams - How about it? Fnd a source from Homelink for the transmitters and a source for the visors with a opening to install the Homelink. Put em together and sell em to us like popcorn at the movies. I will take two, one for the 07 coupe and one for the 07 Z06.
