Default Difference 'tween 2007 and 2008 Z06...

...other than cosmetic, is there really any difference between the two? I know the 'standard' C-6 is considerately different especially under the hood between the 2 years but it seems the Z06 is basically the same car as last year's. I am seriously considering a 2007 Z06 instead of waiting for a 2008......any reason why I should wait?

i would wait on the 08 but there are some 08z's in atlanta right now you can get for 4k off. the 08 with the new tranny, rear shocks, key fob, console etc? to me is a better choice.

The new leather interior would be well worth the wait for the 2008.

TR 6060 transmission may be worth waiting for, for some.

If I could get a really good deal on the '07 though, I would not wait for the '08.

Guys ...stop waiting, get what you can now, the car is always going to improve in the future, and if you keep waiting for the next "better" one, you'll never drive one

I couldn't wait for '08. I don't think the difference is appreciable. But I haven't driven '08.

Doesn't it have a revised steering rack as well?

I couldn't wait on mine. The price on my 07 was too good.

I didnt wait either. There is not enough of an "upgrage" to justify paying for for an 08. tranny? steering? new center console? and available 3LZ? who cares. 505 is 505.

A lot of you say "just buy and go ahead", but why not wait for the 2008 year? A little better tranny, a little better steering, a little better fob key, a little nicer console, and a lot better leather interior etc, etc.
All in all a better car than the 2007 year. Not that I say the 2007 is bad, but if the price is close to equal or it dos´t matter, I see no reason not to wait a little bit longer.

Just my two cent. I canceled my 2007 to get the 2008 because of these changes.
I need my car for some years and would hate my self not to get the leather interior.

I bought an '07 and before that drove an '08....I noticed no difference at all....yes, the '08 interior was a little nicer but not enough difference for me.....went with the '07 because I didn't want to wait and was slightly concerned about the new paint procedure for AO, which is the only color I wanted.....it's all in what you want, you can't go wrong with either....

Also Ranger had posted a sticky on new Z06s getting a stronger half shaft axle. I don't remember when that was implemented. could be on late 07' models or only on 2008 Z06s. From the way it sounds on here its a gamble on the earlier Z06s whether or not your half shaft might break during hard acceleration and tires hooking up.

Maybe someone can clear that up?

The new 08' steering is a dramatic difference from my 07 C6. Much lighter and responsive. It's more like BMW steering now. If the new tr-6060 tranny and steering aren't important to you, you can upgrade the center console yourself on an 06 or 07 Z to that of the 08's.

Both 2007 and 2008 Zs have the new rear shocks. Or was it only late 07 Zs to get the new rear shocks?

That leather dash and trim, while it looks nice, adds a lot of weight to the car. Its like having another passenger in the car.

The rear shafts were done long time ago. Even my end of 2006 production has them from the factory.

For the OP: If you have the patience and the extra $$$ required, get a 2008, it is well worth it for the transmission alone.

No way. It cannot be that the 3LZ weights as much as a passenger, unless you talk about a small kid. Plus the 3LZ is optional.

if you have the chance to get an 08 for the same price as an 07, then obviously get the 08... i got an 07 just because they don't make an 08 RFZ

Imho, 07's are great cars but as reported by people on here who had 07's & now have 08's it appears that both the steering & tranny are definite improvement over prior years. If you don't have " gotta have it right now itis", I'd wait for the 08 & as has been predicted there are good discounts ( 4 grand off msrp) on the 08's. Course you can get at least 7 grand off on 07's, so if you care more about a little lower price over nice improvements, then the 07's might be the way to go. Either way you'll be driving a Z06!!

I'd like to know how much this stuff actually weighs. Maybe someone that dismantles their interior sometime can weigh it all. .. yet I seriously doubt it all ADDS 160+ lbs to the car. I mean really another passenger? Maybe a small pet passenger but not a human. Why would GM increase the weight of the Z06 so much for a new interior when they've obviously gone to such great lengths to limit the weight (aluminum frame, carbon fiber, etc.). Think about it...

My bet's on maybe 15 lbs at most. Eat a salad for lunch a couple days this week.

A similar , though a bit clearer choice, confronts those of us considering whether to buy an 07 or 08 base car. The new manual trans is a wild card here and I don't think there have been enough owner reports of it vs the T56 to really know how much better it is. But it's a factor for sure in both the base car and Z06 since it's the same trans. Likewise the improved steering is common to both the base and Z06.

The clear bump in favor of the 08 base car is the LS3 engine which is shaping up to be much better than the LS2 not just in terms of the 30 or 36 hp.

I've decided my 05 will get replaced with an 08 for these reasons unless the prices of 08 Z06s come down considerably this winter in advance of the SS/BD announcements etc.

None of us can lose though since LS2, LS3, LS7 , base, Z06, Z51, F55 etc etc all all great cars for the money period. I mean what a dilemma! That is having to chose between alternatives and no matter what we choose it's gonna be GREAT!
