Default Front Plate?

Though the topic has probably been beaten to death, what are the fine folks of the forum doing when it comes to mounting a front plate on your Z in those states requiring one? I'm sure many of you don't mount one at all and will gladly pay the ticket that accompanies not having one. Are there any viable alternatives that look clean and do not drill holes into the bumper cover?

Washington State, where I am, requires a front plate but I've been driving for a couple of years without one with no issues. I think The Law will usually only cite you if they stop you for another reason ... so that's another good reason to drive carefully.

I've rubber-banded my front plate to the passenger visor so that I can flip it down if necessary and then it's visible from the front ... however, I don't think it is legal but the officer might at least give me points for creativity. I have no plans for permanently installing a front plate.

Try Top Flight Reproductions. Molds to the shape of the bumper. /easy install(no screws > You can slip it on or off with wing nuts. I keep my plate in the hatch back with the wing nuts.

I have the one from Top Flight with the body colored plate frame. I don't put the plate on too often, but if I do it's just two wing nuts - on and off in a jiffy. Quality piece of merchandise. Nearly invisible with the plate off.

My own custom craftsmanship - off and on with two screws.

2 tickets for no Fr. Plate here in No. VA. The fine doesn't bother me (about $86 inc. court costs) but I hate giving the police the satisfaction of ticketing me.

2nd ticket 2 weeks ago: I was passing an LEO who was walking back to his car right after stopping another vehicle. Lights still flashing. He stared at me as I approached and I noticed him still looking in my rear view mirror as I passed. Got a real bad feeling. Sure enough, he came right after me. Put my front plate on the dash. No break. Ticket was for failing to display a plate properly - not the same as no front plate but fine is the same.

Had I been a few secs earlier, he probably never would have seen me.

Ordered the Top Flight bracket. Great product. Doesn't look bad with body color plate frame.

The problem is not the ticket. Not having the front plate creates a situation where you can be pulled over at any time as you have given the police a default reason. I have screwed the plate to the black front air dam. This is not ideal. This part however will need periodic replacement so I didn't care too much about drilling it.

Well - at least so far here in IL the police cannot pull you over for the missing front plate. It's only an add-on ticket if you are pulled over for speeding, etc. The meter maids downtown will ticket for no front plate while they make their rounds, though.

Default What about New York?

Does anyone know if they can pull you over for not having a fr plate in NY (what I mean is can they pull you over if not having the fr plate is the only reason)?

C'mon, bite the bullet and put the front plate on - it's not
difficult, though painful. My son gets these negative arguments all the time as a State Trooper. We BOTH drive Vettes and have front
plates.Lots of Ferrari, Lambo and Corvette owners who, when stopped. REFUSE to comply with the front plate requirement-which only POs him-until the court summons. I've fought these nickel and dime regs. all my life. Since my father was the DMV Commissioner for many years, as a young hot rodder I paid hell for the slightest deviation from the rules.Very political and often ridiculous circumstances. So at 71 I've
learned to relax a bit. Don't even worry about the ocassional 3 digit
run.

I looked at several of the aftermarket brackets and personally didn't think any of them looked any better than the factory bracket in addition to not liking the way some of them attached to the car so I put the front plate on using the factory bracket that came with the car.

Wow, that's crazy ( )

I bought a Top Flight bracket - it's well made. I had it on a day and then decided to roll the dice with no mounted plate - so far, so good.

We'll see how long my luck holds out.

I personally think the Top FLight bracket makes the car look BETTER than with no plate. I actually really like mine.

Driving without one is a BAD idea. Let's say you go out to the bar and have a couple drinks and start driving around without a front plate...you are asking for trouble
