gas guzzling discretionary purchase...I don't see prices getting much better.

california is already over 4.00 per gallon, and when you're talking about a thirsty auto that holds almost 20 gallons of fuel. Well, you get the idea.

And lets not kid ourselves. People that buy a Z06 may have the "ability" to get 26mpg highway, but real-world having this car...you're not getting that unless you have immeasurable self control.

It's a sticker package with Malibu wheels, not surprised.

Not me (although that one does sound good). I'm waiting for the "Lazy *** plant worker who refuses to work more than 30 min at a stretch without a smoke break" edition! These will be instant collectors items! Stale sandwiches under the seats from when these lazy bastards took naps in YOUR car! Ashes in the console from when the cigarrettes fell into the dash!! I've got a deposit waiting for a dealer who can guarantee me one with extra 'scuz' on the leather wrapped steering wheel!

And to think, with all these "special editions" and "pace car replicas" GM never ever saw fit to produce a Zora Duntov special edition.

So, if my calculations are correct, the MSRP for a new Wil Cooksey Z06 is $86k??? Guess I stole my '06 w/2LZ that stickered for $72k, eh? $14k is a lot of dough for a stripe, wheels and a signed console lid.

When the RFZ was on the dealers lots, I was never able to find one on GMBuyPower or Jeff Hardy's site(even though The RFZ was in the dealers showrooms). I see the same thing with the WCZ. Dealers have them in stock, but they don't show up when doing a search. It appears that GM dosen't want us to know how many of these "limited" edition Z's are unsold, so they don't put them on their GMBuyPower site. There are ~1400 '08 Z's on Jeff Hardy's site plus (I'm guessing) another 300 of the unsold WCZ's. That's a lot of unsold 08 Z's going into the 09 model year.

Unprecedented. Just goes to show what a failing economy of record proportions can do. People just aren't buying discretionary items, especially two-seat sports cars with 505hp and a thirst for premium fuel. Analysts are now reporting that when gas prices hit the $4.00 / gal. mark for regular in early summer, they're not expected to go down for the foreseeable future, if ever. Apparantly, oil production has peaked in Russia and Saudi Arabia. When the well runs dry, there ain't no more. This could spell disaster for the future production of premium fuel sucking V8s in this country.

Default CNBC says oil @ $225.00 a barrel by 2012

Then again, if the price of fuel has anything to do with your Z06 purchase decision, you are not likely to find many options in the 505HP class.

Nothing wrong with a Vettes mpg and many do not use it as a daily so i think gas is the least of anyones concern when buying a Vette.
