Front Grill Removal
Unlike the C6, it appears the front grill on the Z06 removes with 6 push pins on the inside of the grill. Has anyone removed the grill and can confirm or refute this? Was it as simple as it looks?
Thanks

there's a lot more than 6 pins, i think 8-10 of those little bastards. i removed my front grill to install my vette-air, and struggled for hours to securely reinstall 4 of those pins. I will never remove the front grill on my z again, total pita to reinstall them properly.

I am attempting to install the vette air mod on my car. I removed the 10 push pins, but the grill seems to still be attached at the left and right edges to the front bumper. Shouldn't the grill be able to just come off after the 10 push pins are removed???

You're in for a task getting them back in place..

I believe there are bolts on both sided that holds the frame of the grill that must be remove also. Removed mine a couple of years ago while doing several jobs so my memory is not as fresh as I'd like so I'm not 100% certain of the bolt I speak of. Plust I had everything apart. I installed front tow hook & removed my left/driver fog light to make room for my external oil cooler.

pop up the plastic rivets with an auto trim tool ( looks like a forked toungue weed puller) or an old fork. Once removed, the grill will come right out. To get it back in, remove the fasteners on the front edge of plastic shield UNDER the car. Then you can reach your hand up there and put the rivets back in from the INSIDE. Took me five minutes, seriously.

Easier to take off the front bumper cover, at least the bottom. There are push pins as well as 4 screws, 2 on each end of the grill (if I remember right) holding it all together. Picture the front bumper cover sandwiched between the outer grill and another inside plastic structure. //art

I agree, you need to take the front bumper cover off. From the back side it is easy and you can hold everything together tight when putting the grill back in the cover.
Front bumper cover comes off pretty easy. A couple of dozen fasteners and the bumper cover pops right off.

Tried installing my 4-chamber Racemesh grille without removing the front fascia and never could get it quite 'right' - those screws on either side that actually hold the grille in place are not easy to get to and even worse to try and reinstall. Got it straightened out when the front fascia came off for the carbon fiber splitter.

I think there are four of them and they are screws.

The attached "how to" is for a different install reason but it gives you an idea how to take the front end apart if required.

If you are doing a vette-air, carlos gave me this advise. I have yet to get mine and the video shows removing the mesh but this is what he told me;
"Please let me know if you have any install question when you get it. Here is a hint: no need to remove the front mesh to install, can be install from underneath after removing air diffuser located right behind the front bumper...3 10mm and 3 7mm bolts."
Thanks,
Carlos

After removing the push pins there are 2 small holes on each end of the grill that has pins that simply push in. You can't see them from the outside. If you grab the grill and give a yank it should pop out. Mine is a 08, and did not have any bolts or screws on each end.
To get the grill back in you will have to remove the air diffuser under and behind the grill. Like has been said ...3-10mm and 3-7mm. You will have to get the front end up so that you can get you arm in the diffuser area. You can reach in and reinstall the pins. I had trouble on some of the bottom pins because of the plastic giving underneath and not letting the push pins grab, but managed with the help of a screwdriver coming in from a small split in the diffuser area and getting under the flimsy plastic.
If you have arms like a linebacker....it will be tight.... or tighter.
It will not take long. Just have to be determine to do it.
Good luck,
Larry
