Default Z06 vs GT-R, Summit Point Motorsports Park

I know there has been lots of angst on this forum about the GT-R spanking the Z06 in various magazine tests. This past weekend I ran against one in the NASA time trials at Summit Point, WV. My best lap time was 1:21.528 versus 1:23.506 for the GT-R. I have Pfadt coil overs and sways and was running on full tread Toyo RA-888s. The GT-R was bone stock. I can already hear you GT-R apologists whining about how unfair this contest was, what with the GT-R's crappy OEM Bridgestone runflats and what not. Well, life is not fair. Get over it. The Z06 won!

Nice to hear.

For discussion sake, would you say your R compounds are worth 2 seconds per lap over oem tires?

Maybe 1.9 seconds.

There will always be a better tire, the good thing is that even on a 400.000 usd car you can easily swap tires.
I think that a car against another car equipped with the best possible DOT legal tire, proves the cars capabilitys.

So if the GT-R want to use R-888, let him, do the test again and see

Good job

Default Toyo 888

In new the Z06 with good tires and a good driver would spank that gtr

Are you running those Toyo 888's on your stock Z06 wheels. I have wanted to purchase a set for my Z but I was worried the narrow rear with of the rear tire would have a fitting issue with the rear rims. What size tires are you running and how to your like the tires overall. Can the tires be used and the street or are they track only

The Toyo's are on CCW wheels, 11x18 front and 13x18 rear, munted with 295's in front and 335's in rear. I drive to and from the track with them on. They are not a good street tire (noisy and low wear rating). They do stick better than the OEM run flats, but nothing like Hoosiers (or so I am told by people who have used both).

Which track were you on? The old one, the Jefferson, or the Shenandoah (which I know nothing about)?

It's about time a Z wins on track. It's good to know what mods it would take to do the job.

I read that whole ordeal earlier today on autoblog... you turn on launch control and your warrenty goes out the window. A guy showed up with a blown transmission - and they used the black box data that showed he turned off the nannies and did their launch control.

I wouldnt buy a GT-R in the first place but if their transmission are made of glass, and they do the men in black stuff on your car snooping, that speaks very negative of Nissan.

If they were going to void a warrenty b/c you used a feature that the car is designed with - then WHY did they put the feature in there in the first place? Its disturbing too - that your whole warranty flys out the window with just a push of a button or two on the car.

Sorry man... But Pfadt coil overs, sways, big CCWs and Toyo's are good for WAY more than 2 seconds.
Stock for stock you lost by a health margin.

Yeah, my time was okay, Ed's was awe inspiring. I cut 2 seconds off my time just trying to keep up with him on Sunday. I still have a lot to learn.
