[Z06] Engine surges after installing K&N CAI

Engine surges after installing K&N CAI
I installed a K&N CAI part number #63-3060-1 in my 2008 Z06. Car is completely stock except for the CAI. Ever since the installation, engine surges while driving along at light throttle, approximately 3-5% throttle. Surging continuously at a steady highway speed. Not real bad, but it can be felt, and noticeable. If I accelerate, engine picks up without a problem. Problem only occurs while driving at a steady speed. After driving for 30 minutes, the check engine light came on. Took it to the dealer, and was told that it had 2 codes stored. Lean condition in left and lean condition on right bank. Dealer cleared the codes. Called K&N talked with their tech department. They ended up sending me a new cold air intake assembly thinking that the area where the MAF attaches was warped, and not sealing properly. So, after installing two new intakes, engine still continues to surge.
I installed the factory air intake, and that corrected the surging problem.
Am I the only one having this problem?

Surge
My car surged after installation of vett air with stock filter. Installed the hall tech killer bee and car still surged. I think its a byproduct of the camshaft profile. High lift , wide separation keeps the engine vacuum low thus the lope at idle and surge at low rpms. You may be able to tune this out. I changed to the QM600 camshaft and as Carlos says its all in the tune. My .02

I installed a Killerbee and had some surging at highway speeds, come to find out out that that the bridge was loose.
Check your MAF and then seals (the underside especially). That accordian tube thingy can be a beeyoch to get back on.
Once I got mine on nice and square and bolted down tight - things worked like a champ.

Drifting
ok, i'm sorry if this is a little simple, but this comes from CAI installs i've done on older, weaker cars..
did you try disconnecting the battery for like 15 minutes? i really don't know if that causes the computer to recalculate some stuff like it would in older EFI systems, but its worth a try.

I would take it to a tuner. Lingenfelter has specific MAF settings for their CAI on their website, I'm surprised K&N doesn't. I have HP Tuners if you're anywhere near central MO. If not, I'm sure you can find someone close.

There are NO leaks.
The MAF is positioned in the correct direction.
I disconnected the battery for the computer to relearn. Nothing has helped.
Like I said before, installed the factory air intake, and problem solved.
I shouldn’t need a tune just because I installed an aftermarket CAI. It’s not like it’s sucking in outside air. It’s just an open element CAI. (I do not want to get a tune, and possibly void my warranty)
I just talked to another person who installed a SLP Blackwing, CAI which is a similar to the K&N. He is having the same problem on his 08 LS3. So WHAT GIVES???

Stick with the stock intake, send the K&N back, and get a refund. These aftermarket intakes are a waste of money for the measly 15HP you won't even notice except in your head and wallet. Big aftermarket hype.

i disagree with above statement i noticed alot of difference and throttle response was better..... plus the washable filter will savbe $$$$ over the long term

Heck, I am using the same intake out of my 06z - took it off before trading it and then re-installed on my 08z...both made 476rwhp adn 475rwhp respectively...w/NO tune...and after the intake.
After the tune...492+rwhp...

Yes, 15hp will make a difference, and you won't have to replace the darn thing ever again.
I can sell you my stock filter if you want for $ 10 so that next time you have to replace yours...It has 3 miles on it
