FYI oil change
I did the first oil change on the Z this week and thought you guys might find this of interest. I drained the oil (it was hot) and took the old filter off. I left the oil drain for a good hour while I was doing some other stuff in the garage.
I had ordered magnetic drain plugs from Fichtner Chevy but didn't have them yet. So I put the new filter on and put the old plugs back in. I got my magnetic plugs today. I thought there might be a couple drops of oil drip out so I put a small plastic container under the pan when I changed out the plugs.
Well I got more than a couple drops, I got 1/4 qt. Maybe this is why some people say 8 qts is to much? When I drained the oil the first time I sure thought that it had all drained out. I think I'll let it drain overnight the next time I change oil.

never added 8 qts...in my 07...so I would have said 8 was to much to begin with...

If you drain all of the oil from the oil pan, It will take about 8 1/2 quarts of oil. If you remove the oil lines, (pan to tank) It will allow alot more dirty oil to be removed. I changed mine yesterday and did it that way.

I jack up one side of the car and let it sit for an hour or two, then lower it and more oil will drain. I then repeat for the other side. I find about a half quart extra will drain.

I have a couple of 4-post lifts in my garage so I do the oil changes on all my cars. On my 09 Z06, I let it drain for about an hour or so, while I do something else. It does take that long for it to drain. After the initial quick drain, it very slowly drains for quite a while. Then I change the oil filter, install the magnetic drain plugs that I purchased from Ken Fichtner, lower the car and put in 10.5 qts(mine is a 09) of new oil. That puts the level about 1/8 inch below the FULL mark.
