Default 2009 3LZ z06 baseline weight

I had a fun day today. Got the car dyno'd and to make it even more interesting, I got her weighed. I wanted to see what she looked like with the 3lz package and to get a baseline before doing any mods. She was weighed on a certified scale used for motor vehicle registration. It's not a digital but I will get that done within the week. I was assured about the accuracy of the scale and had a nice chat with the owner about the old school racing history of south florida.

Anyways, with about 1/16 of a tank of gas, she tipped the scales at 3110lbs.!! Again, I'm going to double check however I don't think that is to far off given the amount of fuel she had left.

Anyone care to share their numbers?

Figure each gallon of gas is approximately 6.25lbs. A half a tank of gas would add 56+ pounds to the overall weight of the vehicle.

So what were your baseline numbers?

Mine 2lz weighed 3120lbs with a full tank but I have coil overs, carbon hood and zr1 wheels tires. I really think everyone should just filler up before you weigh that then we are all playing with the same number.

I would rather know the weight of the car itself and not the car plus a full tank of gas. Gasoline evaporates very quickly and that variable is to high to be specific whenimg doing before and after comparisons.

But, it would seem as if GM doesnweigh their cars with gas in it, I just don't know how much.

The curb weight is measured with all fluids and fuel topped off.

If gas evaporates so quickly as to be a variable when you weigh the car I guess your tank must be empty when you leave work after leaving your car in the parking lot all day. You can't really mean that seriously.

LMAO Gas can't evaporate too well in a sealed gas tank. Open container I can believe. Only variables you might worry about is how hot or cold the gas is. The colder the gas the more dense it is.

Take it easy on him guys. I think he just wants to feel good about the weight of his car, and thats fine. Nothing wrong with that.

But come on obzidian, 1/16th of a tank of gas, thats a little over a gallon of gas in the tank. If you want to feel good about that, well ...

Plenty of us in here want to find out that we weigh less than we actually thought we did.

why not measuer with a full tank? It's not like your driving around or racing with 1/4 of the gas tank full? If you want to find the weight without gas just minus the weight of the gas that you have in there.
Still 3100-3200 pds is light.

Like I said, I wanted to weigh the car, not the car plus gas. The way I figured it, I wanted to know more or less what she weighed so when I do the headers, battery, clutch/flywheel, etc.... I know how much I loss of vehicle weight and avoid the weight of fuel.

Of course she is going to weigh more with a full tank, but that is not what I want to know.

Quicksilver: you sure they weigh the car with a full tank? I remember reading/hearing that the amount of gas gm weighs their car with was somewhere at half tank? But others sat it 1/4 and some, you included, states with a full tank. Can anyone confirm exactly how much?

Again, 1/16 was not because I wanted to make myself feel goodbyt to see the actual weight of THE CAR.

Flame on!!!

Vehicle Curb Weight

"Curb weight (US) or Kerb weight (UK) is the total weight of a vehicle with standard equipment, all necessary operating consumables (e.g. motor oil and coolant), a full tank of fuel, while not loaded with either passengers or cargo.[1][2]"

But then, what good is weighing the empty car without a driver?

This touches on:

gross vehicle weight

"A gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) is the maximum allowable total weight of a road vehicle or trailer when loaded - i.e including the weight of the vehicle itself plus fuel, passengers, cargo, and trailer tongue weight....The difference between gross weight and curb weight is the total passenger and cargo weight capacity of the vehicle. For example, a pickup truck with a curb weight of 4500 pounds might have a cargo capacity of 2000 pounds, meaning it can have a gross weight of 6500 pounds when fully loaded.

"

Fill it up and then subtract the weight of the gas to come to the weight of the car. Pretty easy to do.

Yeah, how do you truly know how much fuel you have in the car? You have your way, I have mine. And, in essence, that's exactly what I did... I subracted the fuel (used it up) and then weighed it!

I weighed my bone stock '08 3LZ, full tank, 35 lbs of helium in each tire and came up with 3025 lbs.
And a 6-pack of Red Bull

Why would you weigh your car with YOU IN IT to begin with.

Honestly, I get it if I was asking about what are the best headers for a c6 z06 as the flame in those threads are fierce.. and rightly so. But this isn't one of those yet you still get the typical flamed on.....

I'll bet there's more than a few of us that could lower the total weight of our cars if we just laid off the carbs... <- Get it? Carbs... Har, har, har...

14 gallons of missing gas ---- gas=5.8=6.5 lbs/gal, lets use 6lbs/gal ... 14x6=84lbs so, 3194lbs give or take... still not that far off considering the extras on a 3lz car.
