Besides it gives me some time to explore the undercarriage.

.. but doing it right the first time.. priceless. Do a search and read the reports of dealers that screwed up something as simple as an oil change on the Z. Too much oil, not enough oil... body damage... seriously now.

Do it yourself = ~$60 and at most 1 hour of your time.

Let someone else change your oil = ~$100 + $? to fix whatever they possibly screw up + the aggravation.

No one will treat your car like it's owner except for its owner. I do my own work not for the money, but the experience and peace of mind knowing what was done.

That been said... ~$60 + 30 - 60 minutes and I know for a fact I did not over fill, under fill, strip the drain plug, bang the door on the wall, or mess up the under-body with the lift.

In the end this experience should be FUN! Enjoy the car, even the little maintenance items that you manage to do yourself.

I pay about a $100 at McCauley Chevrolet in Cincinnati. It's one of those rare dealers that have expert Corvette techs--in this case Danny Popp. I like taking it in for oil changes because Danny checks everything over when the car is in the air--he's caught a few minor issues I probably would not have noticed if I changed the oil myself. Peace of mind.

I have it done at the dealer for around ~80. Not too bad a price and they have a service record of it being done, really helped me when the engine blew up and they had to replace it.

I am able to wrench my cars, but I don't anymore. I have had two oil changes on my '08 with 8,000 miles, and I had them both done at the dealer. The guy who does the oli changes didn't do my Z06, though, the Corvette specialist mechanic did. He is meticulous, and he does it according to the book. This is not a car you take to Oil Can Henry's or Liffy Lube. $100.

$125 for C6 Z06 incuding clutch fluid bleed and fill every 3,000 miles - or one oil change so far

Do it myself for around $50-55 and it's a 09 with 10.5 qt capacity. I stock up on oil when it's on sale and buy either Mobil1 or K&N filters when I can find them on sale.

Whether you do it or the dealer, make sure the 2 grease fittings in the rear area get grease. My dealer did not know about the fittings.

I saw this catching up to what I missed on a 3 week trip to Detroit. I bring 8 quarts of Mobil 1 to the dealers and they change the oil and AC Delco filter and charge for their labor. In Northridge, CA the dealer charges ~ $20. 2 years ago at Rinke Chev. a mile or so south of the GM tech Center it was $18. Last year at Cauley in Farmington Hills it was $32 and a week ago again at Rinke it was $15.
