GM Recalling 22,000 z06's for flying roof.
WASHINGTON (CNN) -- General Motors is recalling some 22,000 Chevrolet Corvettes, because of potentially leaky roofs, National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said Wednesday.
The recall includes 2005-2007 model year Corvettes and 2006-2007 Corvette Z06s with removable roofs.

Well I am not sure what it is for because I just called customer service and gave them my VIN # and they told me that my vehicle has no recalls at this time. I have a 2007 Z with a January build month so I am not sure what Z06's are part of that "recall"

... I expect that those of us who are on record as already having a roof replacement won't be getting a recall notice. Just cars that had the foam "fix" (and maybe those who had to pay for a new roof after warranty expired or after the foam "fix").

Question: I have a 2007 ZO6 with a August 2006 build date. The Z just turned 40K miles, the roof appears to be fine. Is this something I should do now with the dreaded dealership hoping they know WTF to do? Also, my original windsheild is pitted (must be from all my casual driving) I have zero deductible glass for replacement but want a GM windshield for replacement. Curious how I know if I am affected by the recall as I am right on the borderline date (is there a vin number check to confirm?) If I am in the recall I wonder if I can get the dealer to throw on a new windshield without addtional labor costs. Just thinkings out loud, any thought are appreciated. Thanks

Actually, I own a 2006 Z06, and when this first recall came out, Chevrolet replaced my roof even though it is bolted in. The roof was just shy of the clearance specs, so I just had to wait a few weeks to have a new roof painted with the stock Victory Red color.

The term fixed roof is a relative term. All C6 Z06s are built with separate roof panels with plastic skins glued to a metal roof structure. On the Z06, the roofs are bolted in place. They are removeable but not meant to be removable by the owner. The Z06 roof panels are also subject to failure if made with the original polycarbonate plastic rather than the SMC plastic GM was forced to revert to after MY2007 production had started during the summer of 2006.

I would hate to have my roof replaced because of the color match, not to mention the quality of work. It's extremely hard to get the color to match if you're not blending into another panel, which is the case with the roofs. Luckily, my car was built in 9/06, no flying roof.
