Default How to upgrade 06 Z06 Door Sills

First off let me say thanks to Nick 02 Z06. He passed along his tips to me when he upgrade his sills to newer style.

Part numbers for these door sills are.
25888441 - 2008 LH Crystal Red Z06 SE
25888442 - 2008 RH Crystal Red Z06 SE

You can order them from the vendors on this forum.

My new sills seems to be a tad smaller than the factory. but lined up just fine

Here is a shot of the stock sills on my 06.

They look ok.

Next I laid the new sill on top of the old sills to get a idea of centering.
I used masking tape to make a reference point.

You can line up one end. Pretty easy todo.

Next I used a heat gun on one end of the sill. Then with a plastic scraper I gently lifted one edge and pulled the old sill straight up and off.

Upon removal. I had a small amount of factory adhesive left. You can use goo gone or I used my finger and rubbed it off.
I used some Megquires #7(Non-Wax) to clean the area.

I then used some water and dish detergent in a spay bottle and spayed the area and laid the new sill. The water solution gives you some movement lineup time.

I then used a a cloth to press down on the new sill starting from the center and working my way towards the outside edges. Did this for about 10 minutes on each side. I did have a small amount of solution come out the edges. I repeated teh process a few times.

I then removed the tape and you can see the end results. I am very happy

After

Hope this helps if you were looking to perform this nice upgrade.

Dennis

cool! just in time! I just ordered these last week. The door sills on my blk 07Z are even worse. it's just all black on black and you can't see anything. I was told to use a heat gun and some 3M general adhesive remover after to get all the glue off.

Here's an example of what mine look like, it's just back on black and looks silly, at least the OP's had some silver in his. My Z06 sills will be here in a few days. I think the SE Z06 sill looks better than the regular Z06 sill that they started using in 09. matches the ZR1 sill having the logo in the middle of the sill vs off to the right.

I did it with the black door sill protectors added the corvette sills and the flags and it fits right over the door sill this is how it came out it prevents scuff and marks on the original door sills. Was going to use the z06 sill but had the z06 logo on the mats and arm rest and thought it would be bit much
