Default C6 Z06 Magnetic Oil Drain Plugs

Just want to clarify and make it easy for anyone looking for these...

They are an M12 X 1.75 thread and can be had at any major parts store for $6 each. These came from Autozone but they're not the only store to carry them. I changed the oil today so I can confirm that these work perfectly. (good quality)

My Z didn't have magnetic plugs for an 02/08 build date.

Here's a few pics...

Side by side with the original plugs...

Thanks, I'm planning on getting them for my '09. Are they the same size for every year?

Magnet may crack off, so just break excess off before it's too late. These magnets are weak, so may not remain together if cracks off

You can make your own by drilling an oil plug and putting in a very strong Nd magnet from K&J magnetics.

Huh....???

Any magnet will crack with a strong whack with a hammer but I don't think that they'll suffer any sort of abuse screwed to the bottom of an oil pan. These are a good quality plug and I wouldn't think twice about installing these in your car.

Believe me when I tell you that I am about as **** as they come and I can recognize quality fasteners as I have been a machinist for about 30 years now...

For my 1st Z06 I purchased the magnetic oil drain plugs from GM(when they were making them). For my 2nd Z06 I purchased them from Autozone. Both sets of magnetic drain plugs are identical.

The harder one to find is the transmission drain/fill plugs. Those have NPT thread.

I have an old magnet from an old project.. Thats about 2"square that I duct tape to the side of the oil filter. I prefer that if there is any metal shaving floating around that they stay in the oil filter. When I comes time for an oil change I take off the tape remove the filter . Then tape it to the new filter.

It's kind of like puting stick in the ground on your lawn to catch leaves, oil filter works fine.

I use the magnetic drain plugs and two of these. I was a bit skeptical at first but I cut an oil filter open after 6k miles and it did hold some metal. Overkill I know but I'm crazy

And you don't have to pay any state income tax on the money you earn and then spend, that you pay sales tax on .
