Default How does a stock Z06 run nearly 129mph in the 1/4 with a DA of +1500???

I went to a track rental today to practice my launch in my stock '06 Z on DR. The air here in S. FL was not the best. The DA ranged from +950 to +1575 all day. I failed to really get my launch technique honed in any better... My best ET pass was 11.27 at 126.5 w/a 1.82 60ft 101.3 1/8 mph .... with a DA of +1025 and a slight 7-10 mph tail wind. I tried for a harder launch but I just was not able to get it done. Either a bog or the clutch talked to me.....

Later in the afternoon the wind picked up.... 25mph gusts, it was nearly a perfect tail wind. I ran a few 127.5+mph traps and had one 128.8 trap with a +1500 DA..... I have never experienced anything like it. Usually here there is a head wind.....

Best run in the afternoon was a 11.29 at 127.6 w/a pb 1.78... 98.2 1/8mph...in +1500 DA and 25 mph near tail wind.

Over all I can cut low 1.8 to high 1.7 nearly every run, but not one 1.6X..... That wont get me into the tens.....

PS... Makes me realize how much the head wind has slowed me in the past....

128.8mph trap speed is very impressive.

Nice! It just shows that it ain't all DA that makes a Z06 run impressive #'s. These cars are fast. When you can keep the coolant temps down, can drive and a getting little tail wind helps too. Your close Frank. Keep at it and that 10 will come.

Thanks.... I was shocked how hard the car was pulling up top of the track in the thick air.... I guess the wind was pushing...

I was completely surprised how well the car trapped all day!!! In the past with weather like that I would trap 123-125 tops... Even my early pass before the wind I was in the 126+ range... I was cooling the car 45 min to an hour between runs. That is key!!!

Knowing well how the weather can be here in South FLorida, I can attest to how difficult it can be to get a good pass.

Great Job!!

When there is another rental, could you let me know? I need to hit the track again.

The tail wind is really significant. Wind resistance goes as the square of the velocity. So in a calm day @ 125 mph the air resistance is 125 squared related or 15625 by comparison with the tail wind the wind resistance is 100 squared or 10000. So with the tail wind the wind drag at the end of the run is 56% less explaining your numbers.
Regardless the numbers are very good congratulations

I will, this was via a local web site.... need2speed.com I believe they are planning something later this year again... I think around Nov.

Nice info... I do realize without that wind I would have been lucky to hit 125... I have hit 127+ before, but in cool air!!

I was going to say the exact same thing but less technical... But true

Frank I HATE YOU I HATE YOU!!!!! How the hell are you doing that??????? DAMNIT!!! i want the big MPH's!!!!!!! I do have a question for you in regards to the track. Is it a NHRA or IHRA track? I beleive IHRA calculates over a shorter distance and those tracks tend to show IMO a more realistic MPH/Trap speed but higher then NHRA tracks.

I see i'm going to have to get out there soon and try this again in hopes the bad wheel bearing was slowing me down like 1-2mph!!!

Both sanctions calculate mph exactly the same. It is the average mph over the last 66 feet before you hit the end of the 1/4 mile.

Dont hate the player... hate the game....
Seriously, I was as surprised as anyone to see that trap. There was another stock Z out there that hit a best of 126... so I felt pretty good about my numbers.
NHRA does all their testing at PBIR before the season begins.... so for whatever its worth (apparently nothing) it must be NHRA...

rule of thumb I've heard, every 10mph of head/tail wind affects -/+ 1mph...nice runs regardless!
