I did.....took the straight pipes off and threw them in the trash and put stock cans back on. The drone on the hwy is enough to make you want to punch a baby.

Default Straight Pipes

I agree with Lane Change. I had the muffler mod done on my 2008 Z06 by one of the best in Houston, and I had the stuffing left in the can. I don't have a wireless switch on the bi-modal exhaust, so I removed the fuse for the 25 mile ride home to Katy.
By the time I got to Katy, I was tired of the straight-thru exhaust. I have since hardwired a switch to the fusebox, but I may have a look around for some ZR1 catback mufflers.

This reminded me of a road trip in my 2001 Z06. My wife and I were cruising at about 80 mph across west Texas, toward California. I see a dot following me, increasing in size. Finally I see two guys in a Cobra roadster replica with side exhausts. The car has Florida plates. As they go past, slightly faster than us, I think, those guys look like they have had the $hit beat out of them. Probably by the side pipes. They may have been on a great adventure but I did not envy them at all.

The muffler mod with the pipes open is 10x quieter than just straight pipes w/o mufflers. I went on a cruise not to long ago and when I got home my fingers were tingling and the world sounded like I was hearing it with a cotton bag on my head.

Another Z in Katy...don't see too many of them. I now have the muffler mod and stock cans on my car with the mild 2 wild switch so I can choose when I want a headache or not.

No you wouldn't have Mark. My exhaust has no give, it is slip pipes from the headers back making it damn near impossible to install since I did not have a normal exhaust flange to unbolt to give myself some wiggle room. I think it took us almost 5 hours to get this done....almost started to pull the headers off because it was the only point in the exhaust that did not have to fit into something else.

I know videos don't do justice but I think it sounded good. My 03 Mustang Cobra had long tubes, hi-flow H, and Loudmouths and I loved it. You could seriously hear that car a mile or so away. Maybe I can find someone local that has them in. Thanks for the video.

God...my car was on the stock cam and I thought it was annoying loud. That just sounds insane. Great for racing, terrible for anything else. Stock exhaust with cut-outs would be the way to go. True mild to wild.

By "cut out" are you guys speaking of just removing the muffs?

No, Take a look at the attached, these are electric, they also make them in manual removal. A part of the mid pipe is cut out and replaced with these.

One guy melted/cracked his leaf spring, so be sure to not put them with the open exhaust pointing right at the leaf spring.
