Default cost to paint car

hey guys i was just wondering about how much it would cost at a paint/body shop to paint a whole car? maybe someone could give me 2 different prices, one for just repainting the car the same color that is already on it & the cost for painting the car an entire different color. any help would be appreciated

thanks in advance

Have you ever thought of vinyl wrapping the car? That might be an option to consider. It will be a whole lot cheaper

The price can range widely all depending on the quality of the work and shop you choose to do the paint job. If you want the job really done right, stripping, painting, wet sanding, several coats of clear coat you are looking at a pretty expensive job. I would say $3,000

I would agree this the post above. $4 to $6 grand for a 'SEMA' quality paint job.

BTW vinyl wrapping is the advertisment wrap you see on commercial vehicles.

To many variables to just throw a true price out. Are you going to pull the engine to paint the engine bay or take all the interior out to pain the cabin? You can go to maco for 400 or go to a pro for around 5 to 10k. Remember you get what you pay for. OR you can do what i did, learn to paint cars yourself. Its alot cheaper to rent the spray booth for a few hours.

From what I have seen on friends cars:

$3k for an ok paint job. Maybe a little worse or a little better than your factory job. Factory color only.

$4k-$6k for a great paint job that has no tape marks and no trash/orange peel in the paint. Also factory paint color.

$8k-$10k for a full on show quality paint job. Color change with engine bay and floor pan painted.

Most of the good wraps I have seen are in the $3k-$5k range.

Ill be painting my car myself and it will be looking good. Base coat clear coat lots of sanding and polishig and Ill be doing the color changeover. I cannot stand burgandy. It makes my forehead wrinkle looking at it. When I look at black I can feel the tension go away so black it is next spring. Cant wait. With the red interior it will look mint. I would just sell it and get another but this car is in impeccable shape with so many new parts and I got it for such a great deal Im just gonna paint it

My friend shop around. Lots of guys when they are down on work will do the Job much cheaper. The key is to find the guy who is hungry for work. Thats how I do it and I have saved more than half off in the past before I taught myself to paint. Now that I know how to paint, Ill be doing it myself. Best of luck to ya

When my car came in, it was 7 different colors of Victory Red; literally every panel was different. The only way I would take the car was for them to repaint it at the shop of my choosing. GM sent a rep out, and he agreed.
$7K later, all one color and zero orange peel.

I notice the same problem on 1 of every 10 C6's I see; last year Corvette Quarterly did a story on a Cyber Grey C6Z, and the paint was as bad as mine. Also, the last time I had my avalanche in for service, the service manager showed me 2 Camaros with the same issues.

Depending on the quality of work, a decent job could run from $5k for the same or very similar color to $8k for a totally different color. I would not want to see what a $3k paint job would look like when completed. In terms of body work and paint, you really do get what you pay for!

$3K would not get you a paint job to be proud of where i come from, nor would I feel good about how long the paint would hold up.
