Spring Mountain Question
To those of you that have already attended, should I bring my own helmet, and are they even required? What about shoes for the heel toe stuff? Will any reasonably flat bottom sneaker work or would it be good to buy some inexpensive "real" driving shoes. I don't want to appear any geekier than I already am but if they are a good idea I will certainly order some from Summit. Any other considerations that you wished you had thought of prior to attending?

Just come for the time of your life. They have nice helmets and sell shoes if you gotta have them.
I will post you some pictures, have a blast.
They washed and detailed our ZO6's we drove over and keep them in the garage for us.
Great crew
After hour activites, if desired!

Make sure you get some "saddle time" in the new shoes both walking around, driving the car, etc. You need to be comfortable out there. Learning the car at speed is enough work, much less getting used to your new shoes.
Same with the gloves, they are not necessary, but if you chose to use them, get used to them prior. I would recommend them as your hands get sweaty, and youll lack the grip on the wheel that you need.
I had a blast. JJ and Rick are two great instructors. Definately spring for the 3 day!

Barduch,
Definitely get shoes (& gloves) broke in. I walked around house in shoes week before and was fine. I didn't do gloves but other guys said they wished they had (wimps!).
Don't be uptight about the course (I was a bit).... It is emense fun with very professional instructors. I did pretty well ... Didn't humiliate myself, didn't use deductible o n the car, and performed pretty well!! They've dealt with a few nerds and wild men before!!
Most fun you can have w pants on!

You know if you have you own helmet and are comfortable with it, bring it. Shoes are important when doing heel toe, so get some driving shoes and break them in.
I actaully found some Corvette driving shoes and wear them all the time, most comfortable shoes I have. They are not SFI rated, but for street use they are great and if you don't have to wear all fire rated stuff for a track event they are great.
I brought mine own helmet, shoes, and gloves as I am used to driving with them, feels weird without them. I did not miss wearing my fire suit though.

If you're not used to racing and a little apprehensive,... make sure you pack some Depends or wear dark pants!
Kidding... So much fun, I cannot wait to go back.

I bought some Piloti's on site, and bought a pair of batting gloves at a sports store. Found myself forgetting about the gloves most of the time.
You only use the helmet on the 3rd day when you go out on your on and race your classmates. If you do the 3 day course.

last week
I just went last week. The guys are great! You will learn alot. They give you a helmet and I just wore sneakers and everything was fine. Some guy brought his own carbon fiber helmet and i think it made him look like a tool. Just use theirs. The only time helmets are necessary is when you are on the track. You will be performing some other activites where helmets are not necessary like wet figure 8 and heel and toe shifting. This experience was the most fun I have had in a long long time. Learned alot and did not want to leave. Do yourself a favor and stay for the third day....i didn't and i regret it
