[Z06] LS7 best engine oil debate

LS7 best engine oil debate
There is a so much information available online about which engine oil is the best. I am not as concerned with the brand as I am by number classification. My new Z06 came from the factory with Mobile 1 5w-30. Much of the reading I have done shows a big benefit of switching to 0-w30 due to better cold start lubrication where claimed 90% of engine wear occurs in a normal driving/cruising situation. The manual also approves use of this grade. I find this site particularly interesting and insightful in explaining how oil really works. http://www.bobistheoilguy.com/cms/ Any thought on 0w30 vs 5w30? Any idea which works best for LS7 and valve tapping? Enjoy!

I really don't see the benefit of going from 5W30 to 0W30 unless you live in an extremely cold climate, the car sits outside for prolonged periods and you frequently start the car with temps below 5 degrees.

0-30 is usually a little thicker of an oil than 5-30, depending on brand.

Here we go again
I think I'll go start a couple of "which is the best header" threads just to make the day complete.

An oil thread is needed every couple of weeks to keep the masses entertained.
Having said that though, I agree with the thought that 0W-30 is most beneficial in cold climates. Here in the subtropical netherworld of Houston, I don't see any real benefit for myself using 0W-30 due hot ambient temperatures and the reality that my car is driven 25 miles each way to work of which at least 75% of that commute is on freeways at posted speed limits (or above ).

Yes please explain how 0W30 is thicker than 5W30?
I would have assumed just the opposite! Isn't the lower the number the thinner the oil? Wouldn't 0W30 be thinner at -32 than 5W30, yet they would both be the same viscosity at say +200? Doesn't the "W" stand for Winter and the number immediately preceding the W is the cold viscosity rating?
Do we have a Tribologist in the house by chance?

If not for multiple threads asking the same questions, this forum might have no more than 10 new threads a week.
Lets hope someone starts the 6th of this kind next week.
