Default C6 Z06 Front Air Dam

I can't believe I'm already putting a hurting on this air dam piece --- pretty low to the ground and scraping it up already --- trying to be ultra careful now.

Corvette America or Ecklers seems to show this as a 3 piece unit where mine looks like it's all one piece -- pretty sure -- maybe I need to look closer?? Was the factory air dam a 3 piece?

Don't confuse the air dam with the Z06 splitter which is 1 piece. Mine scrapes all the time. Take a look at p.105 of the newest Mid America Motorworks catalog, part 619-627. Is this to which you refer? Or p. 113, part 648-257?

I agree. It's very unlikely that the air dam (underneath and even with the front of the tires) is being damaged by anything you're doing that's even remotely normal - scraping included. Those are some seriously tough components. Worst case = the fasteners that hold the end pieces to the center piece will fail or pull out.

Most of us consider the splitter (up front under the fog lamps) to be a "disposable" piece like fan belts, oil filters, wiper blades, etc. You just install a new one every so often.

The air dam is a wear item and it will slowly scrape away but it will take quite a bit of time. Don't worry about it hitting anything. It is meant to stand up to that abuse. When it stops making noise driving over bumps it is time to replace it.

Thanks guys! I've seen pictures of the one piece and they called it an air dam --

i'm set now. Mid America wants like $400 for that piece where doing a search on here with the correct name it turns up to be cheaper for the stock piece at a GM supply store.

Take the air dam off and you will reduce front end lift!

My gmpartshouse shipping for this oversized item to AZ was $16.21 and didn't take that long to be delivered.

The C6Z is a front air feeder not bottom so the air dam is to push a little air up into the front brake ducts. It does a poor job. However, the dam does a good job of catching air and where does it go? Out the sides but the faster you go the air pressure on the air dam increases so it generates front end lift. The faster you go the more front end lift you get. All has been proven in wind tunnel testing. Take it off, throw it away and enjoy.

If you need more front brake cooling and or down force get a splitter with ducts for the brakes and a kit to force air to the inside of the rotors. Both will reduce front end lift if done right. Katech has a GREAT package. I recommend the rear spoiler and side skirts to balance the car.

I comprised by putting a ZR1 style splitter on and removed the center portion to eliminate some of the lift at speeds over 100 MPH.

I left the two little pieces on each side to force the air around the front tires and push it into the brake cooling ducts.

It seems to work because the car is rock solid at 140 MPH.

Just take it off? I was getting ready to order a new one (driver's side piece is shredded from pulling into my driveway).

No bad effects if you remove the hole unit. I was going to order replacement parts to day.
