extended warranty states that it will cover any engine problems as long as the car is stock....

As a 60+ tracker I agree. I have always "used" my cars' full capabilities, but never consider that I abuse any of the cars. My '95 M3 with 40 track days and several class championships was sold for the motor and drivetrain at 169K miles, and was still on the original clutch. The leak-down test was 3% at 133K miles.

I do hope the Z06 can deal with track days as long as I do regular (track affected) maintenance. It is quite a machine.

If there wasn't any sign of an issue before the valve dropped, then what exactly is it that I should be watching for? I've got 56k miles on my 06 and haven't had any problems. Yes, other people have had a dropped valve, but I don't think anywhere near enough to claim that it is a defect.

Aint no one going to pay jack for a new motor , and why in sam hell would you buy a performance car from CARMAX ? Those guys are idiots.. And why is the wife driving cross country in a Z06 ? Again I wish you luck but it your looking at a new $15k motor
So the OP has a catastrophic engine failure in his C6 Z and your asking him why would a guy be taking his wife on a vacation in his corvette Z06, or driving cross country with his wife in his beloved Z? Dude, what are you smoking? Also, it's not carmax that is going to do jack chit for this poor guy, its the copmany he has the extended warranty with that carmax sold him (and that warranty company is not going to be carmax).

To the OP, that REALLY sucks I feel your pain, but as long as your bone stock the extended warranty company is on the hook, and I woud LAWYER up ASAP, if they screw around with you at all.

Best of luck and keep us posted!

My 06 Z has 13,500 miles on it, maybe I will upgrade the springs when it has 20K on her (for preventive maintance). Chit does and can happen with any engine, I remember C5 Zs also breaking springs every now and then and the valve dropping b/c its only a single beehive spring (on the C5 Z)!

I'm 68 and only drive my Z06 to the library and Golden Corral for lunch.

But Saturday I'll be at Talladega running it at 160 MPH on the track(7000 RPM in 4th gear = 162 MPH )

Out of literally hundreds of Z06's we work on yearly, the ONLY engine that we've ever replaced was out of an '08. One engine out of hundreds of customers, stock and modded, that's it. The sky is not falling and there is not a major issue. I know how you feel (I personally just shelled out a ton of cash for a Katech LS7 when our engine blew last fall) but the number of failures is insanely small, especially on stock engines.

More than you may think. I have over 560rwhp and have over 20K miles on the car. I don't baby mine at all. Runs beautifully (knock on wood).

Not all cars will have problems, but in the '06 and '07 model years, there were more than a few that had issues. Very small percentage relatively speaking. Sorry you became one of the unfortunates.

New valve springs and rocker arms are cheap insurance on the early models.

This does put things in PERSPECTIVE as this man does this for a living as a GM Tech and high performance extremist, and has serviced hundreds of Z06s.

Rich,

Not that i am going to run out and do this, but if one wanted to upgrade the C6 Z valve spring to an aftermarket one that is a step up from the stock springs, is there a good replacement spring that would not throw off the light weight valve train of the LS7 engine?

Or is it your suggestion that if one wanted to swap out springs every 20,000 miles to play things REALLY safe, to replace it with a stock LS7 spring.

I am talking about an LS7 engine that is bone stock. I always LIKED the idea of a dual spring to increase the odds significantly to hold up the valve if their is a failure, but is there a dual spring that would not throw of the light weight intergrity (or geometry) of the LS7 engnie?

Just trying to eduacate myself on this topic a bit and thanks in advance.
