[Z06] 2012 Z06 Nurburgring run

200 lbs is a considerable difference.
What is the exact weight difference and HP difference though?
The only way to disprove the ZR1 not having an advantage over the Z06 on all of the small straights would be an acceleration curve.
I've got to believe that at every MPH the ZR1 can accelerate quicker than the Z06 right?
That would mean that any time the ZR1 is flat out it SHOULD be picking up time over the Z06.
But... if the Z06 is that much lighter than the ZR1 than maybe it is in the turns where the Z06 is able to regain some of that lost time to the ZR1.

I agree with you AirBus but one thing to note, the ZR1 only has a gearing advantage in 5th and 6th gear while the Z06 really has the gearing advantage in 1st-3rd gear with 4th being equal. So in the lower gears the Z06 can make up for some of it's power disadvantage with gears and lighter weight.

According to these pages:

The Z06 is lighter than the ZR1 by ~170lb.
The ZR1 has ~133 more HP than the Z06.
With that big of a power difference even with that weight difference I see the optimal track times of these two cars being greater than just 3 seconds.

I'm still wondering what they did to the aero. Tadge said it in the ZR1 video and this one but no one could answer the question.

First let me preface this by saying that this is amazing for corvette and the time is incredible.
The ZR1 is only 3 seconds faster than the Z06 on a mid 7 minute track?
Come on! The ZR1 should be much faster than the Z06 over such a long track.
What it goes to show is that these track times are meaningless for comparison.
Driver and track conditions really make a huge difference over such a long track.
I'd love to see actual track data to compare apex speeds of both cars. They SHOULD be identical however I'm guessing the Z06 averaged a higher apex speed than the ZR1 to achieve such a close time to the ZR1.

The original Z06 time is definitely flawed and unfair to compare to all the others on the list that were tested with flying starts.
Makes all previous Zs seem like "dogs" (not really ) when all along they would have been much closer to today's numbers...

This is really good news for all Corvette owners ..
we always dreamed of another lap with different tires other than runcrap ..and here u got it.
and for whoever upset that the difference is only 3 s..both cars are almost similar optioned almost cost the same this is comparison with Z07 package not regular Z06 ..and as far as I remeber the Zr1 didn't feel like pushed to limit as compared to Z07 Video..
Congrats To GM .. and the Corvette team

It was the same guy who drove the the ZR1 and if you guys really understood aerodynamics, gearing, and the fact that is an uphill section of the track you would understand why the car stopped gaining speed.

If I am reading the press release correctly it sounds like Jim Mero only had the opprotunity to take 3 clean no traffic laps. The first 2 were in the ZR1 and the final in the Z06 (Z07). If this it the case, it may have just been him getting a little more comforatable with the track and conditions as he took more full laps.
