Default G*%d*#m little pebbles!!!

What is the deal with these little rocks and pebbles wedging themselves in the rocker sill body lines???

Better yet..how do I get them out?

My car has the Carbon Fiber package on it, so its even more difficult (I would think) to unloosen the rockers so the rocks "fall out".

I'm afraid if I try to wedge them out, its going to scar up the paint!!!

Any tips guys??

there are a number of posts about this - basically don't wedge them out, you have to loosen the bolt holding the fender to the liner and they will fall out. then use weatherstrip to prevent them getting in there, not sure if that will hamper brake cooling any..

here's a thread on it:

There is an article hear somewhere showing how to do a mod to prevent this. I did it. It involves weather stripping. I'll try to find it later as I'm pressed for time right now.
Some one beat me to it. Thanks bigwoolyg...

I've crammed a ton of weather stripping in that area and it never worked. The simple fix is to clear the pebbles out then caulk it with clear caulk. It works and it's a lot easier.

Weather stripping kept falling out on me. I finally chaulked the gap with silicon and that fixed it.

I'll have to try the caulking. Thanks.

That's freakin insane! How in the God's green earth do they even fall in their? The coincidence of the tire picking up a pepple while turning at I don't know how many RPMS per second and just launching it in their.....Not one...but several of them. Then you think to yourself, "Well if it went in, it must come out".....NEGATIVE!! They don't come out! WTF! FTW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I just leave them in their...ALL ONE MILLION OF THEM....

Clear silicone on the exterior of my car...... I think I'll pass on that idea. It isn't too hard to just loosen the screw on the quarter panel and let the rocks fall out.

I have noticed the same thing. No big deal, barely noticeable to me. There are other things to obsess about with these Cars, for sure.

You wouldn't believe how much sand/pebbles are in there After a few years you could fill a small bucket.

The foam weatherstrip method helped but didn't completely stop this accumulation for me. I will try the caulking. It's amazing how much of a gap GM left between the inner fender and the fender. If you run your fingers in there it's quite a space.

The pebbles get in about a foot or two from above, where they are thrown in from the wheel into the space between the painted fender and the black well well.

Remove the little screw holding holding the painted rocker arm just inside the wheel well and pull it about one inch outward and all the pebbles will fall out. Amazing how much is in there.

That is the best solution for a permanent fix.

chaulk on a z06 ...give me a break.....the weather strip helps but doesn't completely take care of the issue...

to eliminate the problem remove the inner fender liners...the holes, seam where the pebbles get in can then be covered with tape...i use gorrilla tape...works great and i haven't had a pebble in the seam for over 3 years now...

The right way to do it is to pull the inner wheel well liner out and caulk the joint where the two panels join. Doing stuff from the outside means it is visible and it won't stop the pebbles from getting in since they get in from inside not outside. Remove several screws (including one from the bottom of the rocker) and a couple of push pins and the wheel well liner comes right out. Then clean the dirt from the top of the panel joint and install some rope caulk. Re-install the liner and enjoy pebble free days from now on. This works on both C5s and C6s and I first did it on my 97 12 years ago, followed by the 03 and now the 08.

Here are the steps:

1) Pull wheel liner off
2) Loosen rocker panel
3) Pull pebbles out
4) Crush pebbles with hammer to send a message to other pebbles
5) STOP OFF-ROADING
6) Put everything back together
7) Drink a beer and laugh at pile of sand (remnants of pebbles)

This is what I did when I first noticed the problem in 2007. Never a pebble since.

Little pebbles aren't the only thing that gets back there. I noticed some pebbles sticking out of the cracks since I returned from Miller Motorsports Park. I was sure surprixed when I took out the screws out and these fell out, along with about 1/4 cup of pebbles. I guess these are what they refer to as marbles...

Ive got to seal this thing one of these days...
