Default Zr1 & Grand Sport exhaust

Been looking into buying a Zr1 bi-mode exhaust for my 08' Z06. Just for the sound, and because I don't like the drone you get with the muffler mod. Question is, is the 09' and newer ZR1 exhaust the same as the Grand Sport exhaust? I know that on the Grand Sport it is an option to get the bi-mode exhaust. But is it the same as the ZR1?? If anyone has this answer please chime in. Thanks.

Second, a few years later it filtered down to C6. It's nomemclature "NPP", BiMode exhaust. It IS different in a couple ways. It uses 2.5" pipes as well.

Third. When ZR1 introduced it too utilized BiMode exhaust, in 3" pipes. However, Z06 'used' (notice past tense) "H" pipe design whereas ZR1 uses "X" pipe design among some other things.

In 2011 Z06's the exhaust was changed to ZR1 design to both standardize production and it's sound effect. To me and IMHO being a Z owner myself, the ZR1 style exhaust sounds better than the original BiMode Z06 exhaust.

The topic/title of your post....changing your Z06 to "GS" exhaust.....hmmmm....

I plan to change mine to the ZR style .....or the latest Z0 exhaust....has absolutely NOTHING to do with GS exhaust.

For GS, NPP is the 'option' code and is optional whereas, on both "Z" model Vettes, it is the 'standard'.....

To sum this up, the Z06 has the same internals, 2 1/2" as the 08 and up C6 NPP, or 09 and up ZR-1, along with the GS. GM welded on a 3" inlet to those mufflers and called it a day! All GM muffles have
2 1/2" internals. So, save your money. NPP and ZR-1, and GS have a sold, not perforated bypass piipe like the Z06.
ALL HAVE 2 1/2" internals!

If your looking for true 3" muffler that does not drone, Corsa is the ONLY muffler on the market that doesn't drone.

I think you may have misunderstood what I was asking. I wanted to know if the zr1 and grand sport exhaust were the same unit and would it fit. The GS exhaust is 2.5" and the zr1 is 3" so it will not fit on my z. So I should be looking to buy a zr1 exhaust or 11' & newer z exhaust. Thanks.

No problemo....

Like the other guy said inside of the mufflers are 2.5" and solid in design in NPP versions. Z is the same but perforated.

It it's the drone you want to avoid, then like he said go with Corsa's. They do NOT have the drone as I understand it. I do not/have not owned any though and don't know from any personal experience.

Ok let's forget about the drone. Will the GS bi mode work on the z? There may be one for sale. Thanks.

Asking this question makes me think your not understanding. Your Z06 already has BiMode exhaust. This exhaust system was designed for Z06 and Z06 has ALWAYS had BiMode exhaust. GS's NPP is close to same thing. The perforations are in a different place is about it besides pipe size.

If you don't want to do any cutting or welding you should stick to the late model Z06, or any ZR1 as you mentioned above. Both of those are already 3 inch pipes just like your Z06.

No, it will not. The GS uses a smaller diameter exhaust system than either the Z06 or ZR1. To further compound the issue, if the GS exhaust is from an A6 car, IIRC the over axle component won't fit over the rear axle because of a different angle in the piping to clear the auto tranny.

I have installed the complete ZR1 exhaust on my car, which includes the x-pipe. The car is MUCH quieter when the valves are closed, due to the perforated pipe. When the bypass valve is opened it's much LOUDER than a factory 2006-2010 Z06 exhaust system, due to the non-perforated pipe.

The ZR1 exhaust is a complete bolt-on affair.......the GS is not.

For a straight up OEM bolton setup for the more aggressive sound you'll need to install either the 09-2011 ZR1 or a 2011+ Z06 exhaust systems.

You have your answer above. I wanted to assure you that you will not regret the new '11 Z06 or ZR1 exhaust. I had an 08Z and hated the exhaust. I just bought an 11 Z07 and man does it sound better and louder. No droan. They nailed it finally. My C5Z w/ just headers sounded awesome. My 08Z was a total disappointment. The 11 is great!

if i had a nickel for every time i posted about my ZR1 exhaust on my Z06 i'm with FNBAD, I've had a ZR1 x-pipe and mufflers on my otherwise stock 07Z since before they announced it on the 2011 Z06. the sound change was minor but to me it was worth the extra cheese. It sounds like the white ZR1 on the "america still builds rockets" commercial, but with an intoxicating 7k redline.

So to reiterate what you've said.

08+ NPP Exhaust, GS, Z06 (all years) and ZR1 all have the exact same internal size mufflers and therefore same flow..... only difference being that the Z06 & ZR1 have 3" Inlet's & 3" Tips where as the NPP & GS have 2.5" Inlets & 2.5" Tips.

I know but the chance has come up to pick up a set of Z06 Mufflers (w/ Muffler Mod) for a good price but if the inner diameter is the same as the ones on my GS I think I'll just save my money.

Hi
I am new to this forum. Do you know for sure if the 2013 Grand Sport with NPP exhaust the solid bypass pipe?
