--Release-- New ForgeLine GZ3R Wheel at LG Motorsports
--Release--
Forgeline is proud to introduce our newest competition wheel – the GZ3R.
An updated version of the incredibly popular ZX3R, the Forgeline GZ3R is an attractive contemporary premium 3-piece performance racing wheel featuring our “I-Beamed Spoke” technology to reduce weight while adding strength and rigidity. It uses hidden ARP stainless steel assembly hardware for a smooth clean appearance and faster/easier wheel cleaning. Plus the design of the center allows plenty of room for caliper clearance and extreme brake fitment. Visible through-bolts are an option on this wheel, for those who prefer the look of the assembly hardware.
The GZ3R is designed for racing. It is engineered with a 1900 lb. street-tire load rating to ensure strength and integrity, even when subjected to the massive loads encountered when used with the stickiest race tires.
The GZ3R is produced using our traditional forging method utilizing 6061-T6 aluminum with heat-treated rim shells. And just like any Forgeline wheel, the GZ3R offers fully-customizable fitment and finish, including center-lock applications.
Let me know if anyone has any questions or would like pricing, as you know all ForgeLine wheels are custom build to order so let me know your combination!

Lets get down to business...is the entire wheel forged or just the centers? I know many companies like DPE only do centers forged and barrels arent forged but of course they advertise it as a "forged" wheel.

ForgeLine barrels are done in the same 6061-T6 Alum and it is made via a spun process.
Now you may say, why not forged? Well a few reasons.
1. Not needed. The main forces through the wheel assembly are through the center, especially at the pad where it is bolted to the hat/bearing assembly. Any major flexing action is going to take place through this location so it needs to be the strongest at this point.
2. Weight, a forged barrel would be much heavier than a spun barrel and with #1 listed above, kind of point less. This would be different if we were dealing with 12,000 lb semi trucks.
3. Cost to make, For each size barrel you would have to have tooling to do so. Any time you wanted to change this, it would be a different tool so if you needed widths from 5" to 13" in 1/2" widths and 17 to 22" in diameter that would be tooling for 96 different pieces.
With the use and destruction we have put these wheels through in all of our years of racing, you are going to be hard pressed to screw it up.

I don't know about either of those wheels.
Just because it says forged and it's say a 18x10 wheel doesn't tell the entire story. Comparing different makes, models, and sizes of wheels you can not compare weights on if you are looking at just one option. Now that is a good comparison between the two companies and the weights of their wheels.
There are varying weights between models and styles of wheels within ForgeLine. A brake fitment difference can change a wheel 2-3 lbs because of how the center is.
If your going to compare weight you have to do it scientifically and have only one change.
