Default Nav owners.....I have a question.

I am considering installing an OEM Navigation unit in my 09 Z. Question is can you link an audio Bluetooth device to the head or am I forced to buy the PAL system? Thanks in advance. Tony

I'm not sure if the "sorry" was for my reply. All I did was to subscribe to the thread as I just got a bluetooth phone and I am interested in the answer, too.

Right. No problem but what I'm asking doesn't relate to the phone rather, I'm looking to see if I can sync a bluetooth audio device such as a Bluetooth capable iPod or iPad to the factory GM navigation unit. I want to install the nav unit but I don't want to depend on the PAL interface. I do like the aux input on my non-nav system. Thanks

I would not install the OEM unit. My friends who have that unit don't like or use it much. Look at some after market units. I have a Pioneer unit installed in my 09Z. It has bluetooth and a hookup for my iPOD. I also have a backup camera hooked up to it. It really works well.

Look at the Kenwood dnx 9980 hd, NAV unit. hands free, bluetooth, streaming and for phone usage, voice command and the best navigation on the market ! I installed one on my 2005 avalanche and love it.

Had an 08 and installed an alpine with everything you want.I now have an 11 Z and it has the stock nav.it sux! I'm thinking of taking it out and putting an aftermarket like pioneer or kenwood don't waste your time and money by buying stock go aftermarket.imo...

Yeah, I hate the OEM nav in my 07Z, it's a POS. It can't find anything, and restricts the hell out of you when you try to type in an address. Go aftermarket.

OEM = junk box ! My stock Nav in my TBSS was better. I have replace the TBSS with an alpine/INA W900 and all I can say is the stock one is really inferior. I plan to do the Z soon. Don't waste your money on the stock one, aftermarkets are pricey but so worth it. GL

updates are much cheaper and straight forward with the after market ones. I hear the GM disk is expensive.

Stupid expensive! That's one of the reasons I did the blazer bought it used and didn't have the cd, dealer wouldn't do anything (Of course) So before I went and paid $230 or 50 or what ever it was, it really was a no brainer to go aftermarket!

Gents, of the 3 radio's suggested in this discussion Alpine, Kenwood and Pioneer which would you suggest for ease of installation, use of factory dash/console trim, factory look, functionality, use of factory installed wiring and components and overall features?

Thanks,

I don't understand all this hate toward the OEM setup. Mine works perfectly fine and it's the only system that will integrate with the HUD.

The HUD integration is a useless gimmick, all things considered. The issue with the OEM nav is that it's a barely adequate navigation system, and a TERRIBLE entertainment system. The GM-offered "PAL" system is still a hack that works, um.. well it barely works. It's nothing like a system designed from the ground-up to work with iPods properly. Nor does the system allow Bluetooth connectivity for sync'ing addresses/phone numbers, or for streaming music.

It's a badly designed system and worthy basically of the amusement it provides by dropping it into a chipper/shredder.
