Default Up date navigation system

Good day fellow corvette owners. I have a 2006 Z06 2LZ with the navigation system. On the original window sticker it states that the buyer get two free navigation up grades. When I take the car to the dealer they just refer me to the GM navigation CD web site. Has anybody had theirs up dated by a dealer? Is there another way of doing this?

No replies, ok. I called the GM customer service line. I was told that it was a promotional thing that ran from 2006 thru 2009. Make a long story short, they are sending me a disc. I had to argue with a manager but they are sending me a new 2012 CD. If you need help call the GM customer service @ 1-877-628-3472.

They have a 2012 disc out per the GM Nav website - and it's ONLY $200.

I need to find a friend and hand him a .99c DVD-R disc instead...

Honestly, don't know why you bothered. That system is so outdated and clunky to use its worthless. My $90 garmin is light years ahead in technology compared to the $2000 system installed in the corvette. Mine Z has it and it is terrible to use.

I just bought an `08 and used the NAV to get home (three states).

I read the "how to use the stock NAV" primer someone posted years ago, and to be honest I found it to be pretty useful. Not easy, not the best thing ever... but pretty decent. Being able to switch sources (FM, CD, etc) and still have the verbal directions come in is nice.

FWIW I've used garmin / tomtom and even Verizon directions from my wife's cellphone: the graphics are nicer, but we've had more problems getting those things to work as far as getting destinations into it quickly, accuracy, etc. So perhaps we're all just a little different in what we expect. I was expecting to switch to an aftermarket NAV at some point, but the OEM unit is decent enough I'll stick with it (even though I'd like a backup camera...).

I agree that it's not the best but I like it just fine. I use a Garmin in my daily driver and yes, it's easier to input things but I still like the NAV in my Z. 2nd Vette I've had one in too.

I just received (yesterday) the 2011 CD which is supposedly the latest from my 07 Z, is there a 2012 version that works in an 07?

The OEM system isn't bad. I actually don't have a problem with it. It isn't as nice as some of the newer systems but its quite usable and works well enough. However, I do feel it just isn't as intuitive as something like a Garmin which is very simplistic and user friendly with its giant buttons/icons.

Given that half the forum can't figure out how to post picture, it wouldn't surprise me if they couldn't the figure the OEM navigation out. I think the non-friendly interface of the unit combined with not so technically inclined demographic here is the cause of the negative feedback we read on the forums.

Christ, here we go again.

My OEM system works perfectly fine and I am perfectly happy with it.

Well I like the system in my vette, not the best but I'm a simple man. I really just wanted to see what GM was going to do. Many time we hear or have bad customer service. This time it was handled with one phone call. Besides if I get rid of my Z ( never ) I can say the navigation has been up dated to 2012.

I updated my factory NAV with a Garmin 40LM(life time maps for free) for $85. It fits on a home made pod that sits in the forward cup holder(also free as I used spray can lids and weights that I had in the basement. It's black so it blends in. I use the factory NAV strickly as a map and use the Garmin for directions, as it's super easy to program and I can check POI's on the fly.

Also, in 2013 it will be up to date(at no cost), in 2014 it will be up to date(at not cost), in 2015 it will be up to date(at no cost), until I die.

Don't know what the big problem is. I have an 09 Z and the nav works great. Ya gotta read the instructions on how to work it. That reminds me of the definition of and educated man. An educated man is one that reads the instructions first, before attempting the task.

It's a good thing I'm a dumb *** or I would still be cleaning salad dressing off the ceiling and walls.

I went to open a new bottle of salad dressing and the instructions are well written on the plastic sleeve around the cap. Of course, everyone knows that you follow instructions in the order they are written, Correct?

Twist to open ->
shake well
Refrigerate after opening

So being a dumb *** that can't follow instructions, I shook the damn bottle BEFORE I opened it.

Do you have the part number by chance? Dealer just replaced my radio and mailed it back w' nav disc inside. They said they were going to buy me a new one and I would like to provide them with current info.

Thanks,

Craig

This is why I didnt get the NAV in my Z. The system looked old even when Z06 was new. The large pixels alone made me say no way.
