no clue why I cant quote but ...

My z06 with a corsa exhaust and no tune on DR was beating GTR's on the strip with 4 DR

most of them where dialing in at 11.75 and in just reg time trails were going 12 or higher

Are you really sure the 2013 stang is really 2013 technology?

I could be wrong but the fastest bone stock '13 GT-R I found was 10.87@125.2

4 out the only 7 listed on our ZR1 fast list beat that time, with the fastest being 10.66 bone stock.

All 7 ZR1s trapped higher with the best trap speed being 133.2 mph.

Now out of the hole it's the GT-R all day but that doesn't last long, certainly not the 1/4 mile.

Unless I'm looking in the wrong places, correct me if I'm wrong...

Keep dreaming, i heard the same hype in 2006 about the 2007 when it was released....and I OWNED ONE. Same crap, beefed diff- yeah sure, they were breaking, dual disc clutch - nothing but headaches and TSB's out for 2007 to 2009 cars......last TSB changed to the 2010 up type dual which turned out to be a weaker but smoother clutch. Believe me, if you haven't heard, marketing is 90 % bullsh*t to sell.

Here's a good one, the rare 2008/2009 Shelby GT500 'KR' with approx only 1600 made.........had a new performance oriented rear deck spoiler........guess where it came from?.........answer: the 2005+ V6 mustang. Nice !!!!

You can always triangulate to a certain extent where it will perform in the 1/4, not so much for the nurburgring or road coarse. I agree, the guys simply assuming the 3890 curb weight will dismiss the threat entirely are a bit naive.

I just know that getting a 1.7 60 ft out of a street tired Z06 is challenging if you aren't at Norwalk/MIR or some other great track. On street tires I average about 11.4@132.8 with 1.79 60's. My car weighs 3130, and I have about 615 hp at the flywheel. Now vettes are lighter, have wider tires, and have a transaxle over the rear tires, all of which are advantages over the GT500s.

So what people are saying when they say the 13 MY GT500 will run 11.3-11.5, is that with more horsepower and "technology" the Mustang is going to go from 60fts in the high 1.8s (best GT500 on street tires I've seen yet - put my friend at 12.2 @ 116) to 60 fts in the 1.6s? The laws of physics don't seem to jive with this logic. I love the GT500 too, considering switching over, but I just don't see this car running 11.3 on a street tire. This isn't hating, just how actual numbers I see would play out. Should the car trap 128? Absolutely.
Agree and disagree. Will not run 11.3-11.5......11.7 maybe.......128? No way.....maybe 120-122 I believe. You know what, what people will be excited about is Ford hotshoe Evan Smith running the best time of any mag after a beating of 100 runs for MM&FF magazine and they'll grasp that, brag about it and be .5 to 1 sec off his time.........and all other mags won't be able to do it either.....but it they end, they'll be driving around their new car 'thinking' they can run the same. Good luck, they'll need it.

I know we are talking stock for stock, but for comparison, I have an 08 508rwhp (bolt-ons) and ran an 03 cobra with a 2.3L whipple swap putting down 615rwhp. I was on street tires and he had drs. From a roll, once I put third, I put about one car on him; fourth, 3 car length. A new 5.0 with a roush blower putting down 700rwhp pulled 4 cars on me; he also had drs...and the famous heat soak issues after two runs; upt to around 150mph the gap reduced to 2.5-3 car length. All three of us are better than average drivers...my point here is that it will definitely will take more than 125rwhp difference, even with launch control, for it to really walk on the stock z06...this considering the z06 is 460rwhp and gt500 585. Just from personal experience.

Not necessarily:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r2EsAz2GCHo

Nissan GTR's best = 10.87@125mph
Corvette ZR1's best = 10.66@132mph

And please don't start in with the whole "prepped track" or "only with a great driver" responses...you said in the quarter mile (which is accurately measured on a drag strip) not on the street. And great drivers aren't born that way, they simply learn it.
When talking all out bests, the ZR1 does NOT get wasted by the Nissan.

I would hope that a lighter, more HP car (ZR-1) could beat the GTR.

Both drivers being equal, the ZR1 can with drag radial's, but stock for stock, in a dig drag race, GTR wins (2012+ GTR'S).

Ok, I stand corrected on what the records reflects, but I'm also not naive to know that it takes someone who has made numerous passes, like Kyle Lemish and Jamie Furman, to do it.

LS1LT1's rant about, prepped tracks, great drivers, etc.... If the ZR1 doesn't have both of these and your not one of the guys on the ZR1 fast list, you're going to lose to the 2013 GTR in the 1/4 mile 100% of the time (stock for stock).

Wait this thread is about the 662HP GT500. Can't wait to see the real, not speculated, performance numbers!

You're right about a plug and play GT-R, a snot nosed 16 year old high school kid can turn a perfect run, any time, any day, whereas the ZR1 driver needs a considerable amount of skill. My point is, was, and will remain that the ZR1 will beat the GT-R in a drag race with a skilled gear rower.

BTW, over 2 tenths and 7 mph is a genuine Azz-Whoopin'

I do acknowledge that it does take a good bit of practice to row effectively, but it's fun practicing. The GT-R,...well...not so much, but that's another thread entirely.

I own a Corvette for a reason and it's not because of what other cars can or can't do.

I love the new Stangs and of course love my Z With the new Shelby I think as has been with Ford in the past, it will come down to traction issues. They have produced some great selling Stangs, impressive power... but 285 rear tires..hmmmm for 662 HP car.... would be interesting to see what would happen if you put that size tire on a ZR1 even though the suspensions are different, it might give a preview of whats to come with the new Shelby

Haven't the fastest Z06 and ZR1 times been run with Traction Control off and Active Handling/Stability Control on and using a 335/30-19" and 335/25-20" tire with 505HP and 638HP respectively. Seems like it's going to take some kind of traction control and active handling system to hook up a 285/20" tire with 662HP.

Here's Fords reason for 285 Series rear tires: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wik6h8TBrgs

Seems like Ford's logic about tires sizes is completely opposite of GM's when you consider the tire sizes. I think most guys who buy this car are going to use it for drag racing not road course racing. Seems like SVT restructured the entire gearing of the car, rear end final ratio and transmission gearing, just to support keeping a 285 series tire so the car can be an "All around car".

I think a little more tire, fewer changes to the gearing and the advanced traction/active handling and launch control system would really make this car a quarter mile killer.

I'm no engineer and I don't doubt the 13 GT500 will launch as Ford says, but isn't everything that the traction/launch control system going to have to do to keep these tires from spinning just going to slow it down out of the hole (trying to prevent wheel spin) until the 285 tire's traction can finally hold the power?

Good looking cars but that's as far as I will take it when it comes to that Ford. Until they lay the power down like they should (putting a wider tire out back), or show something on a road course then it's not worth the money and is just an over priced car IMO. I remember when I first got my car which was a bone stock '06 Z0, raced a buddies 600whp GT500 and I still had paper plates and it was not pretty for him so that turns me away from anything Ford puts out unless it's a Ford GT. And that wasn't the only modded GT500 I beat the brakes off of.

I know this is off topic but I am on the ZR1 fast list and ran my 10.85 after about ~20 passes in the car (2nd time at the track and did best of 11.05 1st time). While I would not consdier myself a novice, before those passes I had only a about 5 drag track days in the previous 10 years. So you don't need 100s or 1000s of passes in a ZR1 to do 10s, just good conditions, a decent track, and some seat time to figure it out.

Edited your quoted post to say "Numerous". That's definitely above average, congrats! And dang, you are right up the street from me. I have good friends that live in Smithfield.
