Default ATE Brake Fluid for Clutch

Hey all,

The GM specified fluid for the Z06 is DOT 4 Brake fluid that comes in a itty bitty container and takes me a few days to get the dealer to order. However, I have DOT4 ATE that I use for my brakes that I have all the time for track days bleeding. Anyone use this for the clutch when performing the ranger clutch fluid procedure?

I used ATE all the time on my c5 with no problems, same system as the c6. Mine has Castrol SRF in it since that is what I'm running on the brakes now too, just for one less bottle to stock, but I think you'll be fine with ATE, it's good stuff.

It's easy to walk into a Walmart auto dept and pick up a can of Prestone DOT 4 for under $3.

From what Ive read it would be fine, but I dont like that it would be harder to tell when its dirty since its dark to start with (assuming your talking about the blue).

Considering the frequency of changes needed, ATE is $$$ compared to the PRestone available at Walmart.

If you use the Gold, then it would be no different, but I agree the Blue would be tough to discern dirty fluid....

Thanks for the feedback. I was not planning to use the blue but the amber ATE stuff for the reasons you already mentioned....type 200 is what its called I believe. I like to have both "colors" so when I change out the fuid each spring, I know for sure its all new stuff.

I don't see an issue with the amber other than it costing a little more than standard dot4
