Default Is this a good cam for a DD?

My friend owns a performance shop and he works mostly on vettes. I asked him to spec out a cam that will produce good power along the other mods he's doing, but still drive like stock. This is what he came up with. I was hoping for a lower LSA so it will sound very lobey at idle, but he said they can tune it to sound lobier. Anyways, what do you think?

231/246 .653”/.652” 115LSA +3 advance (with 1.8 ratio rockers)
Comp LSL/LXL lobes 54-000-11 3 bolt cam core
Cam Valve Events 0.006 0.050 0.200
Intake Duration – ID 281 231 154 13018R LSL lobe .653"
Exhaust Duration – ED 298 246 166 13163R LXL lobe .652"
Lobe Center Angle – LSA 115 115 115
Intake Centerline – ICL 112 112 112

Intake Valve opens – IVO 28.5 3.5 -35 BTDC (- indicates ATDC)
Intake Valve closes – IVC 72.5 47.5 9 ABDC
Exhaust Valve Opens – EVO 87 61 21 BBDC
Exhaust Valve Closes – EVC 31 5 -35 ATDC (- indicates BTDC)
Exhaust Centerline – ECL 118 118 118
Overlap 59.5 8.5 -70 degrees

I am running a 231 247 lsr cam with about the same lift and a 115 lsa. it lopes quite good. it gives the car a good shake. it puts down right at 550 hp and 500 tq. drives very good but will slightly surge under 1600 rpms in lower gears but can cruise in 6th at 1100 rpms all day long with no surge.

Here's where your cam is from an overlap perspective.

overlap = ((intake+exhaust)/2)-(lsa*2)

OEM LS7
211 / 230 @ .050, .591 / .591 lift, 121 LSA
Overlap = -19.5

Katech Torquer 116
220 / 244 @ .050, .615 / .648 lift, 116 LSA
Overlap = 0

Lingenfelter GT19
227 / 239 @ .050, .678 / .688 lift, 114 LSA
Overlap = 5

RagingRacing Stalker
224/246 115
Overlap = 5

Lingenfelter GT17
228 / 232 @ .050, .621 / .630 lift, 112 LSA
Overlap = 6

Your Cam
231/246 .653”/.652” 115LSA
Overlap = 8

Katech Torquer 110
220 / 244 @ .050, .615 / .648 lift, 110 LSA +004
Overlap = 12

RagingRacing Lethal
232/250 113
Overlap = 15

Lingenfelter GT21
243 / 259 @ .050, .663 / .702, 112 LSA
Overlap = 27

RagingRacing Punisher
236/256 111
Overlap = 24

RagingRacing Striker
244/256 110
Overlap = 30

Not to sound like an idiot, but how does overlap effect my driveability and idle? I only know the basics when it comes to cams.

Overlap is the biggest factor in determining the drivability of a cam.

As you can see in the list of cams, the one you selected is relatively mild. Everyone has a different opinion on what is a PITA and what isn't, but I imagine most people would find that cam to be very livable.

more overlap means more surge and less drivability. it makes the idle choppier but the cam you have selected will be choppy and can be tuned to be even choppier if that is what you like. here is mine at a 9 overlap and with a 115 lsa.

its really good. not exactly stock but very dd friendly. i drive it in stop and go traffic very often. (beach traffic and stop light to stop light) i also take it on extended trips. it does it all very well. it has power all over. nice low end tq with a good hit at 3500 that pulls harder as it climbs. its a good dd cam that makes great power and doesnt take away from drivability.

You really need to take a serious look at the Phantom cam from Lethal Racing. It's nice and lopey without being annoying (gentle movements idling, not wild shaking like my Lethal cam was), yet drives damn near like stock. I love this cam and it has good power/torque. Click the link in my sig for dyno sheet and video.

Has any information been provided on these cams that if installed and tuned, that the car will pass emissions sniff testing?

How much advance does the LPE GT-19 or Raging Racing Lethal have?

Not likely. If you need to pass a sniffer test, stick with forced induction.
