My friend is running no thermostat period in his ls7 engine. Is this a good idea or a bad one. He says it never gets up to running temperature. I was told thiscould warp the heads is this true.

I doubt will warp the heads but it will hurt the engine in other ways. Since the engine never gets warm he has the potential to ruin the rings. One thing to remember, GM doesn't spend money putting things into cars that aren't needed so the fact there is a thermostat means it is needed. I really wouldn't want to buy any car he ever owned.

Your friend is not too smart is he? Even race engines have restrictor plates to slow the water flow and get heat into the engine.

The thermostat serves a purpose, to maintain that temperature.

Tell your friend that engine oil is also optional. Let him know that he can save several additional pounds of weight if he drains the oil and his engine will still start up and run just fine for a short period of time which even rimes.

Quit hating on the guy.
I'm very surprised it's not reaching equilibrium at a point above 1XX degrees though? You sure when he says it's never "warmed up" he means it doesn't get to 200 degrees?
