[Z06] New style Z06 oil cooler photos wanted

New style Z06 oil cooler photos wanted
Hey guys,
I have a 2013 GS which has the old style Z06 air / oil cooler and I may want to switch to the new style Z06 water / oil cooler to cure low oil temps in cold weather.
Does anyone have any photos of the new setup? I did a search and didn't see any. I'm trying to figure out if there is any reason it won't fit an LS3.
Thanks,
Jason

You will also need to fab a bracket for the cooler. Edelbrock furnishes one with the supercharger kit. You might contact a vendor about purchasing an Edelbrock kit #15905 that is used when their supercharger is installed on a GS. You can go to Edelbrock's site and look at all the components that are included in that kit.

Using the Edelbrock kit won't give you a Hillbilly Engineering look to the install. The bad thing about using the Edelbrock kit is you are paying for a couple of items you don't need since you are not going with the supercharger. Namely the cast aluminum cover and the valley plate.

And its $1500.... I also don't like their heat exchanger as well as the GM unit.... Again, some thinking to do.

Maybe if enough people contacted Edelbrock, they would offer a kit just containing the fittings, hoses, mtg bracket etc and not the GM ZR1 oil cooler, the aluminum wing or valley plate that really drives up the cost of the kit. Then all you would need would be the oil cooler to complete the installation.

Don't think he will need a bracket for the cooler, just some bolts. When GM replaced the engine in my Z06 last year the oil pan had holes drilled into it for mounting the cooler. The illustration shown above shows where the bolts are used. Items 5 and 9 in the picture. I am pretty sure the GS uses the same oil pan as the newer Z06s and ZR1.

I added the cooler to my LS7, and made a few posts about it. I will try to dig up a couple of other pictures outlining the swap.
Water pump is the same. The radiator is different to allow for oil cooler input. You can circumvent this by using a T-Fitting, like that which is provided by Edelbrock, I have a picture of this somewhere.. Or you can get a aftermarker radiator like the DeWitts A09Z which I did.

They changed the LS7 oil pan in late 2009. I'm not sure what pan the LS3 uses.

You would think that if GM had standardized on the later style oil pan that they would standardize across the board on the new style oil cooler. Doesn't seem like it makes sense to build the ZR1 and the Z06 with one style of oil cooler and the GS dry sump with another style oil cooler.

One of the guys who had post in my thread suggested a thermostat that can be added to the air (oil) cooler. I have not investigated it yet.
Another said he installed a Z51 style cooler on his Z. I will not consider that for mine because it just too dang hot here in summers.
I do not think it will be very simple to add a coolant (oil) cooler...
The simplest I think is to simply cover the grill which I will do this weekend until I decide what I'm going to do.

If GM has standarized on the ZR1 oil pan that would be a bonus. If the OP will check his oil pan for us and led us know if the raised bosses with the tapped holes are on the newer versions of the GS, that would be a help. I know that my early built 2009 Z06 still has the older style oil pan.
