Default Oil Filter Brand recommendations

I am looking to change my oil for the second time since I have owned my Z06. I went with the GM filter (I think it is AC Delco PF48) on my first change. Do people recommend staying with the GM brand or is Mobil 1 a good alternative. Any other good alternatives?

Thank you for your input!

Chad

I use the mobil 1 filter. It is a better quality filter.

UPF48R AC Delco is a good filter. You shouldn't use the PF as the UPF is for higher oil pressure which the LS7 certainly has.

One of our members spent some time and money and cut open many unused oil filters. K & N was one of the better quality ones.

Default Purolator Pure One Oil Filter

After reading very good reports on their construction, I have been using this filter on my 2008 Z06 and before that on my 2001 Z06. They are relatively easy to find and always priced less than the Mobil One or K&N oil filters. I buy them for $6.99 each.

Based on the filter media and used oil analysis reports at bobistheoilguy forum this is one of the better filters for the price. A while back advance had the gold ones on sale. The white ones are fine also. Sometimes you can use coupons codes and buy online and pick up in store to save $$$. I normally buy several at a time (I hate chasing oil filters whe its time to change oil, so I just keep a stock)

I usually pay $4-5 each.
Sears carries hem as well.

I have a permanent reusable filter on mine which I love. Clean it out in the parts cleaner and put it back in

A $150+ oil filter? What's the breakeven point on that?

Thank you all for the replies! I have used the Purolator One filters in my daily drivers. I have heard they were a good quality filter. Anyone have a link to the comparison that was done?

LOTS and LOTS of paper filters. But Its more about the filtration and flow. Paper based filter rates are based on average "beta" numbers, so they let stuff in larger and smaller (so they say) whereas at absolute filtration at 25 microns the stainless element flows more and lets in less (so they say). The other big point for the reusable one is that when the oil is cold it still gets filtered and is less apt to hit the bypass like a paper filter.

Honestly I'm sure both ways are just fine, but I wanted something better. I'm going to send my oil out to blackstone to be sure I made the right decision.

Anyway, lots of controversy when anything about oil is talked about

From what Ive read, Mobil 1 and K&N are the only two out there using partially synthetic filter media which is a plus.

Wix makes a good paper filter. As a side note, Napa Gold filters are made by wix, same thing and cheaper
