Default RMP Motor Sports Rocks

I knew I had to address the dreaded Z06 valve guide issues before I ended up with a pile of parts, so I drove up from San Diego to see Charlie, I told him since he would be working on the top end he might as well put in one of his smog cam's, I told him it must be able to run on our 91 Octane (such junk gas) and pass smog, he said I know how you Varmit's run down there in SD and I have a cam for you.

My engine is nosier, pipes louder, it will shake and rattle a little at a stop light and it sounds bad ***, regular people will look over and car guy's will look over and give me a thumbs up. LOL

I have had it back home for a few weeks now, but have been so busy at work, other than a few in town burst's, I hadn't had a chance to make a Bonzi mountain run, early last Sat morning I crossed over the Tecate border and on to the Rodrigues Ranch to let the dog's out, pulled onto a long straight and at about 30 MPH rolled real hard into without blowing the tires off, this thing pulls like Jack the Frigging Bear, I was astonished when I looked at the Hud and before I knew it I was over a buck 60 and it was still pulling like a freight train, but pulling real smooth, the only reason I backed off was because of the horizon in the road and couldn't see what was on the other side, from the way it was pulling 200 MPH was getting real close. Car is such a blast to drive, I'm blown away at how Quick it is.

Funny, when I was at the border crossing, the Border Patrol Guard looked down at me and said, Well that thing sure sound Stock with a big smile on his face, LOL, I was happy he even noticed the cam.

I had put a Honker CAI on it when it was new back in 08 and I ported my own intake before (old hot rodder) before taking it to Charlie. it put out 550 HP and 491 torque and this is with Stock Exhaust, No headers, Phadt's headers coming after smog.

All I can say is that I am extremely pleased with the results, it is easier to drive than the stock Z and want to give Mass Kudo's to Charlie, Austin and his helper for a job well done, looking forward to the headers, my only regret is that I didn't add the cam 4 years ago.

Nice, really nice. I like your Avatar too. I can not wait to get my head and cam installed. I always felt my car was a little sluggish (Less robust is probably better jargon.) in the middle to top of third and fourth gear. So I am looking forward to my new heads and TORQUER 110!

What heads and related parts did you use?

I saw your car while mine was in the shop, I put down 548.7 rwhp no headers or exhaust too! How much you think it will do with headers?

Kind of weird reading about guys making their cars *more* safe and reliable by *increasing* HP with aftermarket tweaks.

Has to do with changing to SS exhaust valves and bronze guides, the added hp is just a plus while having the work done

It seems as though there's a company called RMP Motorsports so maybe he took it there instead?

What are the cam specs? Based on what another poster said, is it a Torquer 110?

Probably not because he mentioned a smog cam and the 110 would take alittle work to make it pass the CA sniffer.

I would be interested in seeing the numbers it put down though....

Forum supporting vendor Charlie Williams is the founder of RPM Motors, Inc. in Santa Clarita, CA (just northwest of L.A., I do believe, and a stone's throw from Del West, so I've been told ).

He prolly got a 227/239 cam, that's what I got as well to pass smog but the cam is awesome! Torque all throughout the RPM band and HP up top

With stock heads and mild cam I'd say 500 to 515 rwhp from what I've seen but just guessing though. With a bigger cam more of course. But why do cam without the heads?

Sorry guy's, been so busy at work hadn't been back on the forum since I posted.

My bad, YES, I did mean the one and only, RPM motor sports, glad you guy's figured that out, LOL

I will go with Phadt's Headers after I get it through smog as I'm looking for more torque, Charlie said I could expect 25 to 30 more HP and around 555 torque, really looking forward to that.

The rumpity, rump smog cam is a 231/239 - 617/623 with a 114 SLA and is a blast to drive, I still can't believe how it pulls and how much quicker it is.

MVP's you need to bring that bad boy out to one of the MVCC (Mission Valley, Corvettes & Cobras) run's that we have the first Sat of the month and stretch it's legs, there are more than couple of blown high HP C5's that Charlie has rubbed on that run with us. Did you have your Z at one of the JBS GTG's on Sunday a few month's back ?

Hey Red, nope that sure wasn't my car you saw. I just got back to the San Diego area after 3 years.

Would love to get out to an cobras and corvettes event. Now that I'm not working persay (just in school) I can definitely make it to one once I get my car back from Charlie's magic hands.
