Think the new GT 500 is faster than a Z06?
I think not!

No, I don't think its faster than a Z06...but I appreciate the advances that Ford has made in their performance as of late. Competition breeds innovation, so I'm sure the folks at GM are paying attention.

Besides this was a one mile drag and there was no sign of the GT500 running the C6Z06 down on the top end. Do the math, the last 3/4 mile took the C6Z 17.9 seconds and the GT500 18.2 seconds. So the C6Z was still putting distance on the GT500.
For a car that has freaking 667 hp, I remain a little unimpressed. Can't really argue with the price though.

As the owner of both a 2014 gt 500 and a bone stock 2007 z06 I can assure you that the gt 500 is faster than a stock z. That video shows that they both are not very good drivers and that perhaps the road surface is less than ideal.
Bone stock my z put down very close to 460 and on the same dyno my gt 500 put down very close to 630. From a hwy role the gt 500 pulls away steadily. Switching drivers it does the same thing. I've gone 11.5@126 mph in the z, haven't had the 500 to the track yet, but I suspect it'll trap in the 128 range.
Both are amazing cars, and it's hard to choose which one to drive!

The GT500 was actually faster but not as quick. The GT500 ran 120.42 mph to the Z06s 117.98 mph. Only difference I see was the launch. This was low for both. Must have been a very high DA.
GT500s are rated at 662 hp.

For a car that is supposed to be a great straight line performer, I was surprised that the Z06 beat the GT 500. And while the GT 500 has a ton of power, it also carries a ton of weight!

I would also agree, probably a high DA, and zero track prep and no VHT. Those are the same conditions we deal with here in Germany unfortunately... bare asphalt and 2500'+ DAs.
Yeah the trap speed at the 1/4 mile was faster for the GT500, but look at the trap speeds at the end of the mile. The Z06 is at 169 mph and the GT500 at 157 mph... almost makes me think the GT500 let off early.
But either way there was plenty of time and distance after the 1/4 mile split for the GT500 to close the gap and it didn't, the Z06 got the jump and stayed there.
Factoring out the reaction times, their 60fts were within a tenth of each other and the one mile E/T increased to about a 7/10ths of a second gap. Surely another driver could have done better, but another driver wasn't there.

Ok. Fair enough. But even without the passenger it still got beat by about 5-6 car lengths, and as the speeds increase, it has/had a aerodynamic disadvantage. I just don't see it beating the Z06 past the 1 miles mark, when drag and aerodynamics are key! It shows me, just what a fine car the Z06 is, even with a 150 horsepower disadvantage.
