Katech 116 from Europe vs Widow vs GT20
Hello,
I would like to share with you my experience with cams. I had 3 cam.
First cam was Lingenfelter GT20 (568HP & 708Nm). Very powerful cam but drivability and surging for everyday driving was not acceptable.
Second cam was Widow cam. It made on the same dyno (553Hp & 683Nm latter tuning but different dyno yelled the best result of 588HP & 708Nm). I have tuned this cam for one year. Much better drivability than GT20 but much more time spend on tune. Still car didn't drive like stock. Had surging below 1400 RPM, gas smell when fired cold, etc. Very strong top of the range (turbo like kick around 3800 RPM), modest torque down low, not good MPG 1 tank is around 200km of driving. (city driving, or night driving power to the metal). My latest cam is Katech 116 that have made 542HP & 664Nm. Let me tell you this cam is just perfect. Strong torque down but manageable good mid range and high rpm not so violent like Widow but not slow. Drive like stock, even without cats there is no gas smell when start cold. Perfect street manner. The same driving city or nights now I get 300km from 1 tank of gas.
All dyno runs were made in Poland on the same dyno. Stock Z06 made from 440 to 460 HP on the same dyno. After owning 3 cams my conclusion is if you want everyday super car that drive like stock, no surging (non) this is the cam! Yes Widow cam is violent on top, perfect for a track but the trade of of everyday driving was not for me……
When comes to street races (street tires, normal road) up to around 100mph there is no difference between Widow and Katech 116, after that Widow car will start to move away 3/4 to 1 car length up to 140 - 160 mph…..
I have all dyno runs but I don't know how to post them.
Other mods consists of:
Stock clutch & flywheel
Stock Heads
Patriot Extreme Double Springs & Retainers
LG long tube headers with cats
Lingenfelter High Flow C6 ZO6 air induction
100 mm Lingenfelter mass air sensor
160 degree thermostat
Polished and ported throttle body
Greetings from Poland

The overlap is a lot less with the smaller cam and that is why it doesn't smell as bad, gets better gas and drives smoother. Of course the trade off is slightly less power, but it sounds like that is worth it to you.

Cam selection is a very personal thing. For a lot of people a little bucking/surging is nothing and they want the extra 20+hp. That is why they make different cams. In your opinion the katech cam is perfect, in mine and a few friends it is too small. I had a mamba that was a but too small IMO. Friend has a lethal and wishes he went a bit bigger.
Always good to see opinions on cams.

Former Vendor
You're comparing three totally different cams.
The Widow and the GT20 are cams geared more towards all out racing.
As stated above, many vendors offer different cam choices geared towards specific needs. We offer 12 different cams plus the option to make a custom grind to fit you’re driving and/or racing needs.
Note folks: if you want some punch but really good street manners, then cams such as our Bully [117] and the K-116 cams are excellent choices. But if you want a smack on your mouth and strong turbo like power charge as stated above, then the Widow is your choice but with some compromises. Remember, if you’re in the market for a street cam for strictly street duties then don’t buy a race cam. The Widow is an aggressive cam built for aggressive situations such as: punching you in the mouth and kicking the competition in the azz.
Thanks,
Carlos
